[KITlist-Tech] Content Developer (Technical Writer) (SF Bay Area, CA)

Job Description:


Create and maintain Actuate product documentation, including user, developer, and system administration guides and related training materials. Level of responsibility varies depending on the applicant's technical experience and aptitude. Responsibilities include the following tasks:


Research and write technically accurate content for international audience that conforms to Actuate style and complies with DITA standard
Revise existing content to improve presentation and document new product enhancements
Develop exercises, demonstrations, and examples for use in product guides and training materials
Test courses rigorously to ensure quality and reliability of training packages
Create conceptual graphics, screenshots, and callouts that follow Actuate image guidelines
Perform final production on books and convert to PDF and online help
Participate in collaborative scrums and other forms of editing reviews on an ongoing basis
Track software development projects and bug fixes using engineering department tools
Develop expertise in assigned content areas in the Actuate product platform
Qualifications:


Experience using standard technical writing tools, such as FrameMaker, PaintShop Pro, and Adobe Acrobat Professional
Two years minimum experience writing product documentation or training materials in the software industry preferred
The following qualifications are highly desirable:


Degree in English with a specialization in Technical Writing or a technical degree, such as Computer Science or Engineering
Knowledge of DITA and XML technical writing tools
Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, database systems, Web services, Java, and programming APIs
Experience using an engineering bug tracking system, source code repository, and working in a software development environment
Native English speaker with knowledge of a foreign language, such as French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean
