Senior Hardware Systems Design Engineer

Summary

This is a hardware systems engineering position in our development team.
The hired individual will serve as hardware design engineering expert in the areas of system architecture and design; system optimization, performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for all hardware/system engineering aspects of networking appliance design.

Select, evaluate and prototype the components required to design a world-class networking appliance.

Drive DVT, reliability and performance testing.

Work with contract manufacturer(s) on the testability and manufacturability issues for the existing and new systems.

Deal with design issues including noise, thermals, mechanical etc.

Work with outside agencies (UL, Metlab, TUV etc) supporting compliance certification tests including NEBS.

Support software engineers while performing validation tests during migrating software between different hardware platforms.

Provide support analyzing hardware/system related RMA's and create proposals to improve components/system performance.

Write technical specification and system architecture documents and internal operation guides.

Provide input for end user manuals as required.

Skills & Requirements:

Successful candidate will improve system designs and will create new system architectures for Infoblox network appliances product line.

Must be able to work with contract manufacturers resolving new product introduction issues associated with the production ramp.

Must be able to leverage outside expertise where required, driving outside resources when in-house expertise is not sufficient.

Ability to work with vendors to acquire the right subcomponents, riding the technology curves yet balancing the needs to hit price/performance targets.

Must have no fear of diving into the area of new technologies; the successful applicant must be a generalist with the ability to work on all areas of hardware system design including power supplies, component redundancies, reliability analyses and improvements.

The candidate must enjoy working in a team environment, taking project from the specification to volume production; must have a proven record of delivering hardware/software system products.

Experience with networking and web technologies including DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, and LDAP is a plus. Experience with embedded systems and networking appliances is a big plus.

Experience designing embedded systems utilizing latest DDR 2/3, SSD and packet processing engines is highly desirable.

Min 8 years hardware board / system level development experience. Four-year degree in EE or CS is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
