Title of Fellowship Position: Senior Computer and Information Systems Specialist
Work Host: Humane Society | Silicon Valley

Overview of Work Scope: Describe the anticipated scope of work within your organization, overall goals, and the primary roles and responsibilities of the Encore Fellow.
Drive employee productivity via hardware and software on in-house desktops, laptops, tablets, peripherals and in-house applications. This includes defining, configuring, installing, diagnosing, repairing and upgrading all the relevant hardware and software. Assist and back-up the person in charge of network and server management. Troubleshoot problems in a timely and accurate fashion, create self-service options, and provide end user training/assistance where required.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: • Work with IT manager to explore and define the right software tools for the organization • Ensure that requests for support are responded to in a timely manner and according to agreed standards and procedures. Keeps records of maintenance work and repairs. • Configure and deploys Windows and Mac workstations, laptop and handheld devices. Ensures that upgrades, installs, re-installs and changes are efficiently completed as required. • Application support including account maintenance, security and general assistance. • Set up peripheral equipment, hardware components and allied devices. • Assist in installing and managing network including network security. Provide back-up to the person in charge of server and network management. • Check performance-related issues and responds to complaints and queries. • Provide technical advice, and solves employees' technical problems by phone or in person, while identifying ways to make employees more self sufficient • Help maintain operational procedures and system documentation • Other job duties can include minor repairs and computer parts ordering as well as other duties as assigned.
Work Environment. Briefly describe the work setting, including factors such as physical environment, organization size, level of interaction with others inside and outside the organization, team vs. individual work, and organizational culture. As a shelter, HSSV has continued to operate through the pandemic. Some employees are working exclusively from home while others work a hybrid model of on-site and remote. This position will need to operate flexibly with part time both remote and onsite.
Work Impact. Describe what outcomes - both measurable and qualitative - the Fellow will have achieved at the end of the fellowship. Please describe the plan for your organization to sustain and support the project outcomes after the fellowship. Technical infrastructure of the HSSV will continue to effectively provide needed technology access to all employees both onsite and remote.
Work Space, Equipment, and Other Resources. Describe the workspace, support and equipment (e.g. computer, phone, desk, etc.) you will provide for the fellow. Appropriate technology will be supplied.
Transportation comments. Provide any comments on access and proximity to public transportation, parking, etc. Public transportation is available in addition to a large parking lot.
Work Schedule. Most Encore Fellowships are designed as yearlong, half-time positions (the full-time equivalent of 6 months).
