General Responsibilities:
The Lead Hardware Quality Engineer will lead a team of hardware test engineers, technicians and outsource test labs to meet the product testing needs of the organization, including developing test plans and test specifications based on functional and technical product specifications. Work collaboratively with Product Management and Engineering teams to identify design solutions to issues discovered during product testing and ensure that all products receive passing grades before release. Design, implement, and improve the test infrastructure. Design, implement, monitor, continuously improve, and report on Quality Assurance efforts and activities. Ensure that the test results are thorough and clear, so that sound decisions can be made. Candidate will be a key hands-on contributor in the product development life-cycle.
He/She will work closely with Product Management, Program Management and Engineering teams to proactively identify design improvements, development process issues, facilitate continuous improvement and document resolution procedures.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Work with Hardware Quality Engineering team in developing and implementing test plans, test specifications, procedures, methodologies and specialty equipment; keeping abreast of emerging technologies
• Develop test plans and appropriate test set ups and procedures to ensure systematic execution and continuous operating improvements of testing plans
• Work collaboratively with Product Management and Engineering teams during product development to provide inputs to Product Requirement, specifications and product functional specifications
• Manage test planning process to efficiently manage staff, test equipment resources and project priorities
• Investigate new technologies and become a subject matter expert in all areas of responsibility
• Participate in design reviews to offer design solutions to failures and anomalies uncovered during product testing
• Review and understand schematics, develop test scripts to perform product hardware and firmware quality, then execute hardware and firmware component level testing on products to identify usability and design issues
• Utilize / apply standard industry failure analysis processes to correctly identify issues and develop corrective actions
• Publish test reports / results to provide reliable information in a clear and concise manner that can be utilized for making sound engineering choices.
• Continuously improve the efficiency and efficacy in test execution, data gathering, reporting and bug tracking
• Assist in the procurement of test equipment and commercial test software where applicable to support test requirements
• Work with all functional groups to ensure that lessons learned are captured and incorporated into new product designs and development processes.
• Must be able to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
• Perform all other duties as assigned and required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required, MS degree a plus
• 5 - 7 years of demonstrated experience in leading a QA Test Lab and leading a QA test team
• Knowledge in use of various test instrumentation including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power supplies, loads, etc.
• Desirable Certifications include: A+, Network+, CISSP, CCDA, MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, SQE, etc.
• Familiarity with scripting and programming languages (java, c, c++, ) a plus
• Experience with communication and managing offshore resources
• Experience with Wireless and Mobility devices a plus(Wireless: 802.11, WiFi)
• Experience with Agile development(or any iterative) process
• Ability to read and interpret product specifications and schematics
