Blackbox Tester/Quality Engineer Contract

We are a stealth consumer hardware startup located in Scotts Valley (Santa Cruz). We are a great and experienced group of people -70 + strong and willing to go the extra mile while working for a common goal.

Job Description

We work in a collaborative, distributed, open environment where testers sit next to programmers and are part of the project every step of the way. We work in a fast paced, constantly moving environment and operate a highly available connected platform. We've got a fully stocked kitchen and catered meals with periodic remote working opportunities.

Job Duties

• As a member of the quality testing team, you will join one or more product development teams responsible for building and delivering software and hardware for our consumer facing device. In your role, you will own test execution at all levels, focusing primarily on UI testing of mobile applications. You will apply heuristic and context-driven test strategies to perform testing quickly, efficiently, and under time pressure.

• Perform various test-related tasks to support the development and release process including smoke, sanity, functional, regression, and performance testing, as well as maintenance of the test environment.

• Collaborate closely with the product development team, including programmers, product owners, stakeholders, and other testers to develop context-specific test strategies and plans that find important problems quickly.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 4 years experience in a hands-on software and/or hardware quality testing role with mobile applications and/or embedded/connected systems.

• Must have a strong understanding of what testing is and the value it brings. You know various test techniques and approaches and how to select the right ones for the context of a project.

• Experience with Unix and/or Linux and command line usage on a daily or nearly daily basis.

• Must demonstrate a basic competency with relational databases.

• Good understanding of programing or scripting capabilities; Python or Xcode preferred.

• Strong technical understanding of how web, mobile and embedded systems work, including APIs and browser interfaces.

• Understanding and experience of version control processes using Git/Github.

• Critical thinking and analyzing mind; good at solving problems and troubleshooting. Not afraid to ask questions and seek information.

• Strong work ethic, self-driven, and having initiative to do the needful without being asked.
