The Role:
We're hiring a Group Tech Lead to take on product and team initiatives for our Growth product team. The Growth team releases code every day to millions of people, so we're looking for someone who can embrace challenges, build new features, and iterate quickly.
Each engineer has a role in building our architecture and will have the opportunity to touch all parts of the stack. Our projects are big - terabytes of data and customers around the world - but our team is small, so you'll see projects from start to finish, and work closely with product managers and designers to ensure successful results.
Here are some ways you'll make an impact:
+ Build out and scale our content marketplace so more users can share in the success of the content they're uploading to Course Hero.
+ Architect and develop better SEO tools to drive more traffic to Course Hero.
+ Fine tune application performance and scalability.
+ Optimize and help scale our MySQL database.
+ Mentor product team tech leads
+ Help us achieve long term goals of internationalization so even more students can access our resources for any course, anywhere, at any time.
+ Taking software product from ideation to launch
+ Providing technical leadership for multiple products simultaneously
Are you our Star Staff Software Engineer?
+ 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in PHP, Python, Ruby or Node.js.
+ Completed projects in PHP with Symfony, CakePHP, Zend, CodeIgniter, or Yii.
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a STEM field.
+ Experience working with SQL databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
+ Previous work experience where you helped develop a web application.
+ Appreciation for statistical analysis and the power of data-driven decisions.
- Ability to formulate articulate opinions on product design and engineering issues with a focus in finding the most effective solution.
+ A deep sense of product ownership.
Bonus Points:
+ Front-end development or design experience with jQuery, Angular.js, JavaScript, Sass or Susy.
+ Experience with SEO.
+ Experience with Scrum and TDD.
+ Previous work experience at a startup.
+ Projects where you've applied new technologies, frameworks or programming languages.
+ Familiarity using or developing a document categorization system (i.e. Naïve Bayes classifier, Latent Semantic Indexing).
+ Familiarity with I18n
