Position Summary:

The Render Pipeline Group (RPG), the keeper of Pixar's Renderfarm, is looking for a Render Pipeline Specialist to help troubleshoot day-to-day problems and field questions from Technical Directors (TDs). The Render Pipeline Specialists act as "Command Central" for the TD population to help answer questions related to the Renderfarm. With multiple films in production at once, every day presents a new set of rendering puzzles and issues to troubleshoot. Specialists connect the dots with seemingly unrelated problems in rendering, systems, etc. to find the root cause. In addition, Specialists monitor the health and efficiency of the Renderfarm and sometimes shift gears to tackle more complex issues that require focus and some scripting. This position plays a vital role in the film making process at Pixar and has the rare opportunity to interact with virtually every department in the production pipeline. Work hours for this position are 11:00 – 7:00 M-F.

Responsibilities:

Provide a single point of contact for users experiencing a problem.

Responsible for monitoring the health of the renderfarm and the jobs being processed on the farm

Proactively search for ways to utilize the farm more effectively

Assist with renderfarm maintenance (using basic Linux administration skills)

Write and maintain python scripts to monitor the farm, improve efficiency and provide a better user experience

Test scripts and programs written by other team members

Effectively allocate render resources

Able to communicate complex problems in simple terms and keep a positive attitude under pressure

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent

2 to 5 years experience

Solid Unix scripting skills,

Experience with Python a must

Linux system administration experience

Shell scripting experience

Basic web programming knowledge a plus

Experience working with multiple customers with competing deadlines

Attention to detail and strong follow through is a must

Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical staff

Ability to maintain a positive attitude during difficult situations

Experience with quality assurance for internally developed software
