Salary: Starting salary is $44,635 - $52,832 depending on education and experience with increases to $65,713 based on professional development units as it relates to the current Lower Columbia College Faculty Agreement.

Description of Position

The Computer Science Networking Hardware Instructor is responsible for teaching lecture and lab-based classes in various teaching modes (traditional, hybrid, and on-line) related to computer operating systems, networking, and computer hardware. This position will be a member of a collaborative team focused on student learning, and will provide academic and career advising. This position will work closely with the program advisory committee to ensure alignment of industry requirements and curriculum development.

Duties Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

• Teach effectively a variety of computer science courses including networking basics, local area network theory and application, basic and advanced operating systems, and computer configuration and maintenance

• Assist with the development and maintenance of program curriculum and assessment

• Utilize a variety of teaching modalities, including traditional, hybrid, and online

• Interact successfully with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an educational team

• Advise students on career and program choices, and coursework

• Participate in assessment activities

• Participate in departmental, programmatic, and related professional activities

• Complete professional development activities to maintain certification as a professional/technical instructor

• Hold office hours for student consultation

• Instruct day, evening, and/or weekend programs, and possibly off-site courses

• Participate in program advisory committee activities as well as other various college service activities

• Participate in designing hardware and networking labs, and designating equipment purchases

• Assist in student recruitment and institutional program marketing efforts

• May supervise lab technician(s)

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of server administration and network administration related industry experience

• Two years of experience with computer hardware setup and troubleshooting relating to a variety of users' needs

• Microsoft server 2008 and/or 2012 certifications (MCSA/MCSE/MCITP) OR obtainment of certifications within 3 year probationary period

• Comp/TIA Network+ and A+ certifications and/or TestOut Network Pro and PC Pro certifications OR obtainment of certifications within 3 year probationary period

• Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and as a member of a team

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

• Additional certifications in Microsoft, Cisco, and other advanced network industry certifications

• Three years or more of teaching/training experience preferably with adult learners

• Prior community college experience and understanding of the climate and mission of such institutions

• Online teaching experience

• Knowledge of and/or experience using a variety of curriculum, teaching and assessment including the use of technology to enhance student success

• Willingness to take a leadership role in areas of educational and professional expertise

Candidates called to an interview will be expected to conduct a classroom presentation on a discipline related topic. When scheduling the interview, candidates will be provided further details on the presentation requirements. Candidates called for interview may be reimbursed up to $200 to help defray travel costs.
