Crawford Group (www.crawfordgroup.com) is seeking an Open Source Software Developer for a 100% offsite/remote/WFH consulting assignment for our networking technology client. The OS Software Developer will work with the internal Engineering Operations team to take part in the client's Open Source Initiative. The Initiative partners across the company and impacts every engineering business organization to enable the client's innovative and collaborative use and development of open source.
This role will work cross functionally with key partner organizations in the program to provide technical guidance to engineers and business decision makers of architectural and source selection decisions including: buy vs. build vs. reuse, based upon knowledge of software development practices as well as open source licensing.
Specific Responsibilities:
Review, evaluation and approval of SW engineering requests for use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)
Primary evaluation of inbound technology licenses for use in client's products
Provide approval decisions based on legal and technical criteria for use of FOSS in products, as well as outbound contributions and auditing of mandatory redistributions for adherence to open source license obligations
Provide expertise during the Mergers and Acquisition process, helping to define functional requirements for third party software reuse across the company
Interact with Open Source communities external to the company
Participate on the client's Open Source Review Board, providing governance concerning internal FOSS policy
Research requests for policy clarification and provide input on policy implications; propose responses to the Review Board
Skills:
6-7 years' experience of common Open Source software licenses and software development practices
Experience with LINUX operating systems strongly preferred
Working knowledge of computer architecture concepts: User space is required; Kernel Loadable Modules (KLMs) strongly preferred; static and dynamic linking is required
Experience with C/C++, Java programming languages and a strong background in software design
Firm knowledge of the principles for developing embedded and non-embedded systems
Strong knowledge of open source licenses or experience developing with open source
Ability to interface cross-functionally with all levels: engineers, attorneys, commodity managers, business decision-makers, vendors and community representatives
Requires excellent decision making skills and focus driving collaboration and problem resolution
Background as an open source contributor is strongly preferred
MSEE/CS education, combined with 3-4 years of related experience OR BSEE/CS, combined with 4-7+ years of related experience
RATE: D.O.E; as W-2 employee of Crawford Group; benefits available
