Steyer is looking for a Technical Writer to join our team and develop high-quality technical documentation that enables our client's external and internal customers to easily understand how to use their service offerings. Drive, develop and maintain documentation infrastructure and tools and develop Wiki templates and documentation plans. Develop initial product documentation and enhance existing documentation for our client's portfolio of products. Superb writing and interpersonal communication skills are key.
Six-month contract.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop technical content for products including install guides, administration guides, overview guides, training guides, performance tuning guides, online help, reference material, release notes, etc.
• Develop a product task analysis to generate a comprehensive plan for future documentation deliverables.
• Gather information directly from software developers and the support team to write complete and user friendly manuals.
• Maintain and enhance product documentation for ongoing product releases.
• Analyze existing documentation to identify missing and inconsistent content.
• Install and use the product to better understand the technical issues that need to be documented.
• Develop user training programs and course materials.
Requirements:
• Experience planning, designing and writing technical documentation including software requirements, functional specifications, user guides, administrator guides, API references, training programs, technical white papers, or online help systems.
• Proficient in the use of Wiki tools to migrate and develop product documentation.
• Experience managing documentation schedules, reviews, and approval processes.
• Solid understanding of the software development of life cycle.
• Knowledge of information architecture to migrate documentation and develop new documentation.
• A good understanding of programming concepts.
• Proficient at documenting functional requirements with use cases.
• Proficient with documenting software interaction workflow.
• Proficient user of FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Microsoft Word, Adobe Illustrator.
• Excellent writing skills as demonstrated by writing samples.
• Educational or practical experience in Java, Perl, Shell Scripting a plus.
Education/Experience:
• 3+ years experience developing technical documentation for software.
• BS/BA degree required in English, Communication, Computer Science, Engineering, Technical Writing, or equivalent work experience.
