Our client, an early-stage pharmaceutical company is looking for a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer.  This role will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the East Bay.  It does require this person to be working in the office.  Safety guidelines for COVID-19 will be in place.    

 

This role will lead all aspects of finance and administration of the company. Responsibilities will include building, coordinating, and overseeing the financial functions of the organization and incorporate best practices in all aspects of finance. The CFO will partner with the CEO with fundraising activities, along with capital allocation strategy, modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.

 

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Oversees all aspects of Finance, Accounting, and Investor Relations.  
  • Provide strategic vision and tactical execution to enhance budgetary capabilities.
  • Communicate the company's strategy, growth opportunities, and business initiatives in a way that creates clarity, consistency and widespread understanding among investors and analysts. Adept at modelling different financial scenarios related to future strategic options.  
  • Provide a high degree of accountability, transparency and understanding with respect to financial reporting, accounting, and performance analysis across the organization.  
  • Provide the necessary analytics and metrics to support and deliver the strategic vision and operational plans.  
  • Contribute a strong and informed point of view and the necessary leadership to add value as a key member of the senior executive team. 
  • Ensure a strong and disciplined financial organization that provides timely, accurate and decision-useful internal reporting, and an internal customer service orientation. 
  • Ensure the company maintains appropriate internal controls.
  • Oversee financing efforts, that provide direction and groundwork for an initial public offering (IPO), ensuring financial infrastructure to successfully transition to public company, including SOX compliance. 
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff on a daily basis, including regular feedback, disciplinary actions, career development and opportunities.
  • Manage outside contractors addressing all aspects of finance and administration not internal to the organization.
  • Support a work culture that appreciates cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together.
  • Create a workplace culture that is consistent with the company's mission, vision, and values.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industries.
  • IPO experience
  • Previous CFO experience in a public company, including presenting to and interacting with boards, banks, analysts, and investors.
  • Possess strong forecasting ability, including hands on capabilities and scaling to high-level communications.
  • Experience leading a company through growth and implementing the process and systems needed to scale a business.  
  • Ability to introduce best-in-class process, discipline, and financial rigor without negatively impacting creativity or growth.
  • 10+ years of management experience with strong technical and financial acumen 

and well versed in U.S. GAAP. 

·       Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning.
