About the Role: We´re looking to hire a software engineer whom is extremely well versed in PHP and MySQL. Ideally the developer is looking to work in a company where the impact of their efforts is felt on a daily basis all across the company. The candidate will have experience writing production code for something that matters. We have 10´s of millions of users, billions of DNS requests and all of our users manage their settings through our web application.

Responsibilities:
- Help develop and maintain the web infrastructure at OpenDNS
- Solve scaling and performance problems
- Assist in feasibility analysis and estimation
- Help shape functional requirements of new products
- Participate in code reviews
- Mentor other developers

Education & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience building web applications
- Expert knowledge of PHP or other interpreted language
- Experience with using PHPUnit (or other xUnit implementations) and Test Driven Development
- Strong knowledge of MySQL with an understanding of the impacts of indexing and schema design along with query analysis and optimization.
- Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS. An ability to develop web pages by writing HTML directly is required; knowledge of XML extremely helpful.
- Linux or FreeBSD familiarity, understanding of Apache or Lighttpd, and experience working in a shell environment.
- Experience working in an agile development environment

Desirable, not required:
- Bachelor´s in Computer Science or related field
- An understanding of major computer science algorithms and ability to implement them where needed.
- Knowledge of MySQL including but not limited to complex joins, subqueries, stored procedures, etc.
- Ability to write and understand complex JavaScript and use frameworks like jQuery.
- Experience developing PHP extensions (PECL modules) in C.
- Previous use of Subversion or git for code management and versioning.
- Experience with Python.
- Familiarity with DNS.
- Involvement in any Free or Open Source software projects.
