In addition to generating time, Symmetricom products distribute and apply time, enabling a range of critical operations - from controlling or synchronizing the flow of voice, video, and data throughout communication networks, to securing mobile communications in warzones or facilitating complex navigation systems in space.
Symmetricom seeks a strong, hands-on Senior Embedded Software Application Engineer for its R&D organization based in San Jose.
Reporting to the Director, Embedded Software Engineering, s/he will support the software development activities related to the customer integration of Symmetricom's embedded timing/sync solutions to specific target platforms.
You will work with developers of our customers and partners and must be able to productively and effectively coordinate the technical interactions to get the job done.
In addition, you will have the following responsibilities:
* Developing customer requirements analysis and target platform evaluation
* Reference board bring-up and development environment setup
* Develop PoC (Proof of Concept) or prototype solutions on target platforms
* Work with internal developers as well as other remote developers
* Support customers on technical issues related to application porting and integration
Preferred Experience Requirements:
* Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
* Minimum 5 years of embedded software design experience with 2 year minimum writing programs for embedded Linux
* Solid programming experience in C and C++ with emphasis on embedded systems
* Hands on experience with embedded Linux development environment and tool chain
* Solid understanding of OS coding techniques such as threading, processes, drivers, interrupts, etc
* Understanding of hardware subsystems, interfaces and hardware debugging method
* Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be greatly valued:
* Packet network time synchronization protocols, such as NTP and IEEE-1588
* Telecom protocols and technologies such as E1, T1, ATM, Frame Relay
* Wireless communication systems and networks
* Network security protocols such as Radius and others
* FPGA development or interfacing
