Open Networks Software – Customer Support Engineer

Wind River Systems has a great opportunity for a Senior Customer Support Engineer. The candidate we are seeking is an excellent communicator both written and oral, with a strong desire and ability to work with the customer to resolve their technical problems by troubleshooting and debugging operating systems in a real-time embedded environment. Preferred locations: Sunnyvale, CA USA or Kanata, ON Canada.
Please note: This is not an IT position for Systems Administration or Desktop Support.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Based on reports from developers using Wind River products, the engineer will identify and correct or provide workarounds for defects in operating systems and tools, design and write programs that test functionality and demonstrate the proper implementation of APIs.
- Communicate effectively with customers (developers) to resolve their problems
- Communicate effectively with account teams on customer issues
- Document customer issues and resolutions accurately and thoroughly
- Develop technical content, articles and demonstration code for online support site
- Participate in support process improvement activities
Required Experience:
- At least 5 years of customer support experience
- Strong communication and customer service skills (written and verbal)
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated, independent and comfortable working directly with technical customers
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related major
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (solid IP protocol)
- Exposure to SDN Concepts, Network Virtualization, OpenFlow
- Routing (OSPFv2/v3, BGP, ISIS, RIP)
- Multicast routing (PIM/IGMP)
- IPv6
- Layer 2 protocols (VLAN, 802.1-related protocols such as STP/LACP, TRILL)
- Strong C++/C programming
- Good development experience in Linux environments and the open source community
- Strong background in embedded systems programming & embedded hardware architecture
Preference will be given to those candidates with the above noted requirements and:
- At least 5 years' experience in L3 routing protocols development
- At least 5 years' experience in Layer 2 protocols development
- At least 5 years' experience in Linux environments
- At least 5 years' experience in in high performance switching systems, including the development and troubleshooting in the control plane and data paths areas
