About the Role:
We have a diverse team of engineers pulling in the same direction to deliver technology and user experiences that will transform society. We are looking for a Director of Engineering who knows what it takes to build great software, is driven to produce high quality results and understands that getting to the finish line as a team is always more rewarding than being the hero. We have an amazing data platform opportunity in the legal space and are looking for your energy, passion for excellence and rich experience to help us fulfill it.
We have a mix of .NET and Java/open-source based applications and services as well as SQL and NoSQL data stores, so flexibility and breadth of understanding is a must. Responsibilities:
Work with the VP of Technology to organize and develop the engineering function to better support business needs
Work closely with the QA, Product Management teams to ensure that software development best practices are defined, socialized and consistently applied
Define and own the software development lifecycle and engineering methodology
Work cross-functionally to incrementally deliver quality product experiences in support of company objectives
Hire and actively manage a world class engineering team, identifying and developing team-level leaders
Work with the engineers to identify and consistently socialize best patterns and practices
Characteristics/Requirements:
1-3 years of director-level experience
interaction with other directors and executives
resource and organizational planning
interpreting company goals and objectives into engineering commitments
3-5 years managing teams of at least 6; 1-3 years with teams larger than 12 preferred
day-to-day management of releases and development sprints
personnel development and mentoring
operational support for high-volume websites
Working knowledge of both .NET and Java-based, open-source technology
Experience working on public, high-volume websites; prefer a strong, successful startup background
Excellent communication skills and positive attitude
Great sense of humor and even keel
Collaborative by default but decisive when necessary
Results-oriented and excellent motivational skills
Preferably a solid engineering background
Preferably a CS degree from a good program
