Title: Technical Support Engineer (2 positions)
Location: San Jose, CA
Contract: 6+months(renewed quarterly)
The Technical Support Engineers will provide first line phone and email consultation to several clients. They will serve as a focal point for large account network problem resolutions. Candidates will be expected to perform troubleshooting tasks on network management tools. They will be expected to resolve customer issues and close customer tickets efficiently. They will be responsible for ensuring that the customer relationship is managed through proactive customer communications, by providing rapid response and guaranteeing that estimated response times are communicated up front.
These customer issues often include product bugs, DNS issues, device configurations problems, and troubleshooting connectivity issues as well as training the customer on unfamiliar features. In general work on problems of diverse scope.
Required Experience and Skills:
3 to 5 years hands on Linux system administrator skills.
Proficiency in Solaris 10 and current usage.
Strong understanding of switches, routers, firewalls, proxies and subnetting.
Good working knowledge of standard protocols such as Telnet, DNS, FTP, and SSH,.
Experience with UNIX shell scripting (Perl preferred; or, PCP, TCL, Python or Ruby)
Experience with Traffic Sniffers such as Ethereal.
5 years in a role with customer-facing support responsibilities
Standard troubleshooting skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
EDUCATION
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
