Expert Support Inc. is a contract technical communication company headquartered in Mountain View, California. We have about 30 writers on staff. All of them are busy and our customers want more. We need some really good technical writers to add to our staff.
Our customers are usually looking for someone to be part of an agile development team, someone to be present on-site every day sitting with the programmers. They want someone with demonstrated Javascript or Java API experience, XML or JSON object representation experience, SOAP object protocol experience, RESTful application architecture knowledge and Wiki or Confluence experience. They will accept something less, but that´s what they want. Javascript experience or knowledge is the most important part.
This list of proficiencies is a tall order. There are lots of tickets on the list, but no ticket is particularly hard to get. You don´t need to have written JSON-related documentation. You do need to know what JSON looks like (read the Wiki article, for goodness sake) and how JSON object representation differs from XML object representation. And it wouldn´t hurt if you could tell which one you preferred - JSON or XML - and why.
These customers are, for the most part, developing services to make mobile computing (read smartphones and iPads) applications possible. You know that weather app you have on your iPhone? It only works because someone wrote an API for weather services and then an app that uses that service. Our customers want writers for those development teams. There is a whole huge software architecture being built for pervasive computing - mobile platforms talking to cloud-computing applications. The documentation for it needs to be written.
If you live in the area (Northern California) and if you have a resume that demonstrates the relevant experience, please send a copy of your resume (pdf preferred) to jobs@xs.com. If you don´t have a resume that demonstrates the relevant experience, but want to find a way to get there on your own, send in a resume and state what you think you need to learn to fit the profile.
You can also find out more about Expert Support from our antiquated web site, www.xs.com. The shoemaker´s children have no shoes, but the shoemaker is working on them between phone calls and emails. We hope they´ll be done Real Soon Now. We hope.
