[KITlist-Tech] Principal Architect - Computational Imaging (Mountain View, CA)

Please direct your responses to: shaun@virtualupgrade.com

Principal Architect - Computational Imaging

We develop the technology that is at the core of all of our array camera products spanning array architecture, optics, algorithms, and applications. Our core technology team has world-class resources combining strengths in areas ranging from computer vision, signal and image processing, color science, optical systems, computational photography and computer graphics. We constantly innovate and through a symbiotic process of combining the essential elements of algorithms, optics, and sensors, along with a keen understanding of manufacturability issues are developing a powerful new paradigm in consumer imaging. We are a group of highly focused technologists who combine the best of theory and practice to ensure that our solutions are sound, viable, and solve significant problems in imaging.

We are seeking a Principal Architect in the area of computational photography with significant depth of knowledge in the core area of computer graphics, geometric and 3D modeling. The principal role is the development of the capabilities of the computational array camera in applications related to depth capture, 3D surface/solid modeling, and image-based rendering. As an employee and member of the Imaging R&D team, you will need to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is a full-time position reporting to the CTO.

Responsibilities

You will apply your expertise to develop the core technology of 3D surface and geometric modeling from 3D camera output targeting applications in diverse verticals such as consumer photography, machine vision, security, and other related areas. You will have significant software development experience in C/C++ but will be open to picking up any other software skills needed to get the job done. Knowledge of and prior experience in 3D modeler environments such as Maya would be a bonus as it will be important to develop models and plug-ins that interface to the popular modelers in the industry.

You will work among a group of like-minded technologists who revel in innovative out-of-the box thinking and whom you seek to leverage for their strengths in other areas of computational imaging. Additionally, you will work closely with the SW ecosystem team members with whom you will deliver solutions that enhance the usefulness of the camera array technology and fully exploits all its capabilities to open up new markets and uses heretofore unseen with traditional imaging systems. This is the job for you if you're interested in defining and driving the technology that will translate into next generation products.

Requirements

• PhD/MS CS, EE or equivalent
• 8+ years developing and/or leading complex software projects •
• Proven track record (products/publications/patents) in computer graphics, geometric and 3D modeling
• Broad familiarity with various geometric modeling primitives (ex: Subdivision Surfaces, Nurbs, Bezier and
bi-cubic surfaces) with in-depth knowledge in a few of these areas
• Experience in delivering software products in these areas would be desirable
• Good knowledge of computational photography and imaging desirable
• Solid programming skills in compiled languages (C/C++/Objective-C), and specialized languages (GPGPU, OpenGL)
• Good interpersonal skills

Desirable

• Good understanding of digital photography and image quality
