The new Director of Engineering will be integral in building the next generation Elance platform during this phase of hyper-growth. As an engineering leader you will play a critical role in Elance's continued success by working directly with the Engineering, Product and Operations teams to define, build and deliver world-class quality and highly scalable solutions. The Elance mission remains: global dominance as the leading platform for online employment, helping businesses hire and manage anywhere, anytime, in the cloud.

•Continue to innovate at a very fast pace to maintain our competitive edge

•Attracting top talent to expand the engineering team in an incredibly competitive market
•Have a vision for improving our development methodology as well as technology
•Collaboration across geographically dispersed teams (engineering, product, ops)

Scale/Execution
•Scaled a large website for a consumer SaaS company
•Demonstrated success developing and deploying software into a high traffic web environment
•Ability to drive the organization to deliver against very aggressive goals
•Strong web experience operating in a 24x7 customer focused environment
People/Culture
•Thrives in startup environments/culture; entrepreneurial DNA
•Track record of attracting, recruiting, hiring and mentoring great people (Jr to Sr level engineers)
•Has managed engineering organizations of 30+
•Adept at managing multiple teams and projects concurrently and thrives in a rapidly growing company with strong leadership
•Capable of collaborating with top executives, stakeholders and groups concurrently
Process Management:
•Multi-tasking is a strength - Able to handle a variety of different projects on different release cadences
•Can maintain predictability of the organization in a fast paced sprint cycle
•Introduces process and structure when/where needed. Understands the fine balancing act between nimbleness and measured. Knows when to take risks
•Strong multi-tasking skills and excellent problem-solving skills
•Experience delivering in agile environments, with continuous deployments, highly desirable
Technical Skills:
•Strong sense of technical vision and execution
•High bar for quality and keen sense of UI/UX
•Ability to guide and participate in design and code reviews
•Ability to get their hands dirty when needed
•Most comfortable in a fast moving agile development environment; LAMP stack
