Nanosys is looking for an accomplished senior chemical engineer to bring up new equipment and processes to scale up its solution-phase nanocrystal synthesis from lab to pilot scale. The candidate should have specific experience with liquid chemical process equipment, including pumps, flow and heat calculations, filtration equipment, chemical reactors, etc. The successful candidate will be fully conversant in chemical process scale up; including process optimization, development and transfer of processes, hazardous materials handling, and typical pilot process equipment. Candidate will be part of a team of scientists and is expected to transfer processes smoothly and swiftly to larger scale reactor systems. The person should independently be able to think, analyze, design and control scale-ups to meet the volume demand for our nanomaterials. The candidate is also expected to improve optimize the process steps to maximize process throughput and product quality while ensuring a safe work environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge of chemical synthesis, process scale up, heat and mass transfer, process improvements optimization. Experience with process automation, and process and data acquisition software is desired.
• Hands-on; able to think and operate independently with minimal supervision; able to work efficiently and productively and adhere to strict EH&S rules and regulations.
• Must have strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
• Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in scale up. BS Chemical Engineer with extensive experience will also be considered. Candidate should have experience in industrial chemical synthesis, such as in the specialty chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent.
