Job Description:
Our client is a private company located in Torrance, CA (Los Angeles area). They are a leading R&D-based turnkey imaging systems provider who solve problems and deliver complete solutions to their clients. Their activities include developing systems including electro-optical sensors, algorithms, and data collection protocols, and then helping their customers collect data in the field and analyze that data. Their areas of emphasis range from military and defense to precision agriculture and farming. They are a team of highly energetic and enthusiastic scientists, and are seeking ambitious, driven, and self-motivated individuals to add to their team.

They are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer / Scientist to design, build, test, and field (collect customer data with) systems comprised of DSPs, embedded systems, etc., to use with sophisticated hardware systems that they develop to solve their clients´ diverse needs. This position will be highly independent and requires the individual to take complete ownership of EE projects.

Specific Duties include:

Own the design, specifications, implementation, and quality control of all electronic systems (R&D and production).
Propose DSP / embedded systems / software solutions and trade-off analyses to problems presented by other engineers, customers, etc., including entire process from problem definition through the development process, to pertinent concepts and solutions.
Demonstrate proposed solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts, as well as hardware concepts, hardware selection processes, optimization, etc.
Collaborate with hardware and software leads to deliver the most desired solution for any particular project.
Test and use complete software/hardware solution in the lab and field to collect and analyze data.
Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, techniques, and computing equipment.
Participate in educational opportunities; read professional publications; maintain personal networks.
Participate in professional organizations – this position requires YOU to be aware of what research is going on at universities around the world that may help Company improve their products, provide better R&D proposals, etc.
Position will include assisting in, and preparing proposal solutions for government solicitations, submitting papers to both referred and other journals, etc.
Responsible for project management of the hardware and software, ensuring engineering specifications and deadlines are met.
Interface with clients, vendors, sub-contractors, and other project teams to understand the scope of work and provide the best solution.

Required Skills:

BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related Engineering fields, MS/PhD a plus.
(MS/PhD and 1+ years or BS and 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
Ideally 1+ years of project management experience covering full product release cycle.
1+ years developing control systems for electrical and mechanical devices, such as cameras, motors, sensors
RTOS and DSP programming experience (VxWorks, Micrium, others).
Embedded Systems Development experience (WinXPe, Linux, etc.).
Hands-on knowledge of logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, debuggers, etc.
Must be a self-starter and a fast learner; must work efficiently, both independently and within a team.
Must have very good problem solving skills and attention to details.
Must have Excellent written and verbal communication skills - must be able to write clear reports, papers, proposals, etc., and efficiently discuss the same with other scientists, engineers, and customers.
US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED
Clearance Level: none required, must be eligible and willing to apply for security clearance.

Desired Skills:

Education relevant to the company's fields of expertise – including minors, additional degrees, etc., in optics, physics, electrical engineer ing, computer science, etc.
Experience with image / data acquisition and processing.
GPU-related programming experience (CUDA, OpenCL, GPGPU, FireStream, etc.).
FPGA design / programming experience.
Experience with analog and digital electrical systems – analog circuitry for noise sensitive high speed data acquisition systems, microprocessor-based embedded systems, system level and board level simulation, etc.
Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (e.g. C++) and procedural programming languages (e.g. FORTRAN, IDL).
Familiarity with CPU/GPU system architectures, hardware acceleration, memory management.
Working knowledge of how to use any source control and bug tracking systems.
Experience with hardware-software interaction, low-level operating systems, and software optimization.
Experience with GUI development and proficiency in one or more GUI toolkits.
Previous experience in EO/IR systems a plus.
Current or past security clearance a plus.
