Position: Senior Oracle Applications DBA
Location: Southern California
Employment Type: Contract to Hire or FTE

Position Responsibilities

The Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, management, and security of database applications to ensure integrity and user access. The Oracle Database Administrator reports to the DBA Manager.

1. Performs database administration and management activities in a safe, recoverable, and professional manner that ensures the optimal operation of all database environments by: (50%)
• Designing, implementing, and monitoring database functionality to ensure a stable environment that supports business continuity;
• Maintaining the production, test, and development database environments associated with the daily operations and support of the Oracle database administration;
• Addressing Oracle Financials database upgrade challenges and issues related to customization to ensure a smooth and successful transition upgrade;
• Upholding enterprise policy guidelines and recommending new and improved guidelines to ensure compatibility and better service for end-users; and
• Staying abreast of the most current release of Oracle, including compatibility issues with operating systems, third-party software and utilities.
2. Provides support for database security and SOX audits to ensure database integrity and user access by: (10%)
• Assisting in the application and implementation of procedures for data standards and guidelines on data ownership, coding structures, and data replication to ensure access to, and integrity of data sets;
• Managing user security and access to databases to provide controlled access environment;
• Investigating, reviewing, applying, and testing all patches and bug fixes in the database environment;
• Maintaining security according to best practices and generating security solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements; and
• Maintaining up-to-date plans for disaster recovery and fail over capabilities and testing as required.
3. Monitors system/application performance in a large 24x7 environment and provides suggestion for system performance improvement to ensure optimal system/application performance by: (20%)

• Identifying and initiating resolutions to user problems/concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software);
• Identifying potential service level problems before they occur and notifying appropriate parties;
• Performance tuning;
• Performing proactive maintenance activities including index rebuilds, capacity planning efforts, table re-orgs, partitions, and purging data;
• Troubleshooting database/system related issues and creating Oracle SRs to resolve them; and

4. Reviews custom code and perform custom code migration to all non-production instances and provides suggestions for custom code performance improvement. (10%)

5. Ensures successful reporting of data/information and processing of business critical jobs by: (10%)

• Performing database administration activities and analysis of results through careful methodology and accountability of standardized reporting processes;
• Providing support for application system setups and Batch/Concurrent Manager jobs/scheduling; and
• Providing support for Oracle Discoverer, ADI, Noetix and Vista Plus tools.

Decision Making:
The Database Administrator makes decisions based on plans as outlined in the overall IT plan by the DBA Manager. The incumbent has the responsibility to recommend while advising and defining the database activities that are in the process of working toward the desired database model. The Database Administrator must use his/her experiences to confidently make decisions that influence the Company's businesses and processes. The data managed is very important to the success of the IT function, making accuracy paramount.
Supervisory/Lead Responsibilities:
The Oracle Applications Database Administrator has no direct reports.
Scope of Position:
The incumbent spends the majority of his/her time performing database management, troubleshooting, support, administration and problem resolution.
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
• Demonstrated expertise installing and configuring oracle Applications databases
• Demonstrated expertise to perform day-to-day database administration on existing databases.
• Knowledge of performance monitoring processes and procedures.
• Proven expertise in being able to design, test and implement oracle database solutions.
• Ability to perform database tuning for optimal performance.
• Experience with Cloning 11.5.9 and R12 applications
• Proven expertise to maintain documentation of systems and standard operating policies and procedures.
• Expertise in developing, testing, and implementation of the appropriate backup procedures.
• Proven expertise to interact with various levels of staff and management.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% as necessary.
• SOA Suite, Weblogic Hyperion, and Oracle GRC desirable

Education/Experience:
Required:
• Bachelor´s Degree in Information Science, Data Management, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience with Oracle Financial Applications including 11i, R12 with database release 10g and 11g.
• Experience working with industry standards, regulations, and guidelines in database warehousing and other relevant systems.
• Experience working with domain structures, user authentication, and digital signatures.
• Experience working with relational databases.
