Department Description

MCTE (Mission Critical Transport Engineering) develops IP based solutions for Motorola Solutions´ public safety systems. The team is a software development group with Astro Systems Engineering (ASE). The main target of our business is mission critical applications used in public safety, federal, state and local governments. Our department has approximately 60 employees - a mixture of software engineers, hardware engineers, architects, test engineers, and management. The majority of our development team is focused on real time, embedded applications used in the Motorola Solutions Network Routers.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations

Work as part of a team in the development of router software. Propose, architect, specify, cost, design, develop, unit test, and integrate embedded and application software to support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the MNR routers. Maintain proficiency in networking and communication protocols as well as software development capabilities to contribute to a successful product line. Responsibilities will also require coordination of efforts between software and hardware development teams.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

Development experience with C in UNIX environment and GNU debugging tools.
Experience in design, development and debugging of real time embedded systems, multi-layer protocol stacks and network protocols. Protocols desired: telephony interfaces, PPP, Frame Relay, Ethernet, IP, IPv6, PIM, OSPF, BGP, IPSEC, Voice over IP.
Knowledge of ASTRO Voice and Data Systems desired
Advanced debugging skills.
Experience with embedded debugging tools (ICE, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, etc.) is desired
Excellent organizational skills
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well in a cross-functional team environment.
