Thomson Reuters is the leading source of intelligent information for the world´s businesses and professionals, providing customers with competitive advantage. Intelligent information is a unique synthesis of human intelligence, industry expertise and innovative technology that provides decision-makers with the knowledge to act, enabling them to make better decisions faster. We are adding an Investigative Data Analyst to our San Francisco office. As a member of our testing services group you will learn, explore, and challenge new quantitative models, performance metrics, financial data sources and user interfaces that directly contribute to the success of our clients and their customers including mutual funds, pension funds, and individual investors.

As an Investigative Data Analyst your objective is to ensure that our algorithms, software systems, and user interfaces function exactly as intended. You will help find coherent patterns within incoherent data sets, identify potential errors, and be the first to explore new features. You will imagine all the ways something could go wrong and then employ your technical skills to validate or rule out your concerns. Your analytical thinking will eliminate defects because the test cases you write and execute will effectively challenge both the design and implementation of new features.

On a daily basis you will use your strong quantitative skills, as well as a variety of technical tools, such as SQL, Excel, and programming languages (e.g. R, Python). You will create permanent systems and procedures so that your knowledge is reusable within the group. You will assess technical specifications in various states of maturity, helping to eliminate development and testing risks. You will look for every opportunity to improve the quality of Thomson Reuters content based on your investigations of our software systems and the data they process. These efforts will require you to interact with employees at every level and in different parts of our organization.

We expect our Investigative Data Analyst to be successful working with new technologies and on a number of different projects simultaneously.

Qualifications:

What skills do we seek in our employees?

* A relentless attention to detail that allows you to spot omissions, contradictions and implications in our written specifications as well as discover unexpected behavior in our software systems.
* Exceptional creativity combined with sharp analytical thinking so you can imagine the myriad ways something could go wrong and then efficiently confirm or rule out your concerns
* An aptitude for technology and numbers that makes you a SQL wizard, a numbers wrangler and a skilled learner, user, and combiner of analytic tools, programming languages, and techniques.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, a personal commitment to quality, and the ability to function as part of a high-throughput, mutually-supportive engineering team
