Technical Writer – Mobile Transactional Services
Location:-Redwood City, CA, USA
Date:-August 2010
Reporting To:-Engineering Solutions Manager – MTS
Reporting to You:-None

Purpose
Produce software engineering design specifications for new, existing, and planned products related to Mobile Transactional Services.

Key Responsibility Areas:
-Generate and/or update technical documentation including, but not limited to, software design specifications, functional and non-functional requirements, use cases, system architectures, test cases, test plans, installation guides, usage guides, integration plans
-Work with Engineering to generate internally and externally facing technical documents for new, existing, and planned products related to Mobile Transactional Services
-Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations when required

-Excellent Written Communication: ability to write clear, concise, and cohesive technical documentation covering conceptual ideas, procedural tasks, and referential information
-Teamwork: able to work reliably and responsibly with internal and external colleagues, customers, and partners
-Excellent MS Office Suite Skills: advanced experience with MS Office applications, including document templates, styles, formatting, and tracked changes
-Tech-Savvy: conversant in application development and software design specifications, comfortable with technical configurations and terminology
-Detail-Oriented: fastidious attention to fine details, both visual and non-visual

General Competencies:
-Ability to work productively in a team as well as independently
-Expertise in appropriate document-generating applications (such as MS Office, MS Project, MS Visio, and e-mail).
-Foresight, analysis, and logic; systematic and orderly planning; thorough and meticulous attention to detail
-Ability to take complex technical information and convert it into simple-to-read, informative documents
-Ability to gather partial or scattered technical information and combine them to produce cohesive, detailed technical documentation
-Ability to implement version control procedures across multiple documents containing cross-referenced or interrelated material.

Experience and Education:
-Minimum of 2 years experience in professional technical document writing
-Minimum of 1 year experience in writing or using software design specifications, preferably as a Java Developer or working with Java Developers
-Fluency in written and spoken English
-B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science, English, Journalism, or related field is preferred
-Familiarity with Java software development, telecommunications, mobile messaging, or financial transactions is highly desired

Other preferred experience:
Java, Spring, Hibernate, Tomcat, Web Services, Linux, XML, SOAP, SOA
-Upon hire, the successful candidate must be able to provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States
