Senior Technical Support Engineer
Location: Downers Grove, IL or Alameda, CA
Wind River Systems based in Alameda has a great opportunity for a Customer Support Engineer specializing in Wind River embedded operating systems including Wind River VxWorks and Wind River Linux. The emphasis of this position is Linux, however VxWorks experience is a strong plus. The candidate we are seeking is an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with a strong desire and ability to work with customers to provide best practice advice and resolve complex technical problems.
Please note: this is not an IT/System Admin/Help desk role. Nor is it a Product Development role, however strong programming skills are required
Duties:
· Provide technical customer support on Wind River product
· Communicate proactively and effectively with customers at all levels of management to resolve technical problems
· Work with account teams on customer issues
· Document customer issues and resolutions accurately and thoroughly
· Develop technical content for online support site
· Participate in support process improvement activities
Requirements:
· Very strong Linux knowledge is required
Strong C or C++ knowledge
· Comfortable with UNIX and/or Windows development environments
· Software development experience on one or more common embedded processor types (PowerPC, MIPS, X86, ARM, etc)
· Proven track record troubleshooting and debugging OS issues in a real-time embedded environment
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Self-motivated, independent and comfortable working directly with customers (both technical and non-technical)
· BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Preference given to:
· Device driver development experience highly desired
· Technical or field support experience preferred
Preference given to those with VxWorks experience
