Network Engineer - Sunnyvale, CA
Proofpoint is seeking an experienced IP Network Engineer to join the operations team. This position is full-time, based at our corporate offices in Sunnyvale, and reports to the Director of operations. The Network Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the Proofpoint corporate and production data center networks, working with Juniper/Cisco/F5 systems.
Requirement: Due to the security requirements for this particular opening, the applicant must be a United States Citizen.
Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain high-capacity network hardware in a multi-vendor Juniper, Cisco, Dell environments
Manage physical network connectivity in high-density datacenter environment
Monitor network utilization, capacity, and performance quality
Detect, diagnose, and resolve network problems using methods that minimally impact production/customer environment availability
Document network topology and develop comprehensive network designs
Participate in infrastructure capacity planning and expansion activities
Support operations and product development teams in identifying and resolving complex functional challenges, helping to identify or rule out network issues
Participate / contribute in projects
Maintain network security controls and compliance on all network hardware
Work with security team in maintaining and enhancing network security standards and assess network vulnerability
24x7 response to critical issues on a fast-growing, high volume network infrastructure.
Skills:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
5+ years of extensive experience with LAN/WAN networking hardware
Comprehensive knowledge of L2 technologies - VLANs/VLAN tagging, Spanning Tree, Etherchannel
Comprehensive knowledge of L3 technologies - IP Subnetting, IP routing, BGP, OSPF, VRRP
Experience with physical layer technologies-Gig/10G Ethernet, CAT6 & Fiber cabling
Experience with network operating environments IOS, JunOS
Experience with Security operating environments ScreenOS, SRX and Cisco ASA
Experience with network security - firewalls/ACLs, VPN services
Experience working with a variety of network monitoring tools: Nagios, Cacti, RANCID
Experience working in a high traffic cloud environment
Expertise with installing and planning of new data center facilities
Dedication to exceeding quality standards and providing services of the highest caliber
Excellent multi-tasking skills
