Usability Engineer (IRC 34720)

Job Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our User Experience Team and assist in designing the next generation of computer input devices and interaction methods. This person should have experience in a wide range of usability methods and be keen to perform a wide variety of usability tasks. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, extremely detail-oriented and able to work effectively in a dynamic environment. The candidate is expected to conduct a user-centered product design process that integrates usability at every level. Primary responsibilities include designing and conducting heuristic evaluations, initiating and conducting usability studies, designing testing tools and protocols, analyzing experimental data and generating reports Additional responsibilities include working with platform engineering teams and exploratory research to set usability goals for research and platform projects and products and providing support to research and platform teams regarding any usability issue including but not limited to interpreting usability data and usability/HCI relevant research during the product design process. The candidate will be responsible for tracking usability progress and reporting progress toward usability goals to platform engineering and business unit's management. The candidate will assist in the management of the usability lab. The candidate needs to be able to effectively communicate and represent usability issues to platform development teams. Excellent writing and presentation skills are highly desirable.
Required Qualifications
• MS /Ph.D in HCI, Computer Science, EE, Industrial and System Engineering or other related fields • In-depth knowledge of usability practices and principles • Ability to plan and conduct formative and summative usability studies • Ability to create testing protocols and recruiting screeners • Ability to conduct and oversee qualitative and quantitative data analyses • Ability to perform expert usability reviews – heuristic evaluations • Excellent reasoning and problem solving skills • Skilled in verbal and written communication • Ability to work in cross-disciplinary environment
Desired Qualifications
• Experience with the input devices and technologies • Knowledge of sensor technology and/or gestural interfaces • Experience with UX design on large scale software project • Good programming skills • Strong background in "real world" data acquisition, modeling and analysis.
