MTS - 3 – Product Installer Software Engineer
Job Description
The Product Infrastructure organization is responsible for installers and software integration for the company's desktop products, including Workstation, Fusion, and View, as well as the installers and integration of Guest Tools components for POSIX and Windows platforms.
VMware's Product Infrastructure team is looking for a strong software engineer to participate in the design and implementation of our Guest Tools installers and integration, and integration, configuration, and installation of our desktop products. The Product Infrastructure team is an energetic and experienced group of engineers who work with a wide cross section of the company's products and development groups, including server, virtual device driver, and desktop products groups. We have a passion for making the various products work well together and for keeping customer experience and ease of use at the forefront of our work.
Responsibilities:
• Take ownership of product integration solutions, working closely with various software development groups across the company throughout all phases of software development
• Invent, design, and implement new features and enhancements to product installers
• Design and own key components of our infrastructure, including unit test and build automation for the Product Infrastructure team's code, as well as utilities and services for use by other groups in VMware
Requirements:
• BS or MS in Engineering or CS and 2+ years of commercial software product development experience, or equivalent experience
• Strong design skills and insight about usability
• Strong coding skills in one or more programming language, such as C/C++ or Python
• Significant experience with Posix (Linux, Unix) or Windows system software development, system administration, and configuration
• Knowledge of operating system internals
• Cross-platform experience desirable
• Experience developing end-to-end products (from back-end to GUIs) desirable
• Must be self-motivated
• Very strong analytical skills, attention to detail, good judgment, and passion for your work
• Good teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
