Data Director Team: VMware vFabric Data Director powers database-as-a-service for your cloud, reducing database sprawl and drastically accelerating application development cycles with a self-service database provisioning and operations platform. It brings the virtualization benefits directly to the Databases in the Enterprise. Join the Data Director team for the opportunity to work with a group of talented engineers that builds this exciting new product.


Responsibilities:

We are looking for new college graduates who would like to work on the Data Director product. This engineer will be working with various Enterprise application framework and virtualization technologies, such as JEE, Java, REST, VMWare vSphere API, Python, to virtualize and automate database operations for most popular Enterprise databases. This engineer will also be working with other product teams and functional groups, such as QA, Support, Professional Service and partner engineers, to resolve technical issues, and integration solutions.

Some of the technical challenges that we are tackling include:
• Cluster membership management for Database servers
• Database replication management
• Disaster recovery automation
• Open plug-in architecture for third party data service integration.


Technical Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science; Masters preferred
• Strong computer science foundation
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail
• In-depth understanding of object oriented programming. JEE, Java, Spring Stack, a big plus
• Experience with database ORM frameworks like Hibernate, JPA a definite plus
• Experience with XML, JSON, REST and Web Services a plus
• Good understanding of Database management tools and practices
• Good understanding of requirements for Cloud Computing environment: multi-tenancy, scalability, availability
• Good understanding of networking principles, with working knowledge of TCP/IP stack a plus
• Good understanding of storage technology principles, such as SAN, NAS, snapshot.
• Good understanding of virtualization architecture and principles.

General Requirements:
• Excel in globally distributed team culture and environment
• Have a strong "can-do" attitude.
• An aptitude for understanding complex systems, and inter-relationships between different components at multiple stack layers.
• Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic work environment
• Good verbal and written communication skill
