Contract Senior Technical Writer
Molecular Devices, Inc. is looking for a talented and energetic contract senior technical writer to work closely with our product development group in Sunnyvale, CA.
Molecular Devices, Inc. supplies high-performance analytical systems, including instruments, software, and reagents, to accelerate and improve drug discovery and basic life science research. By providing systems that address just about any combination of throughput, content, and budget needs, Molecular Devices helps pharmaceutical and biotechnology as well as academic and government labs leverage advances in molecular, cellular, and systems science to understand normal and abnormal biological functions and discover and develop novel therapeutics and tests. The company has long history of developing innovative, first-to-market products that have enabled its customers to improve laboratory productivity and effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities:
Use your technical knowledge, organizational skills, writing ability, and editorial expertise to produce clear, concise, and technically accurate end-user documentation for instrument systems.
Prepare customer-facing documents including installation instructions, user guides, training materials, application help, and other documentation using established style guides and procedures.
Employ a topic-based, task-oriented, and minimalist approach to writing.
Team Involvement:
Work in a team-based environment within product development teams, and manage relationships with department and project managers.
Participate in internal design reviews during product development.
Meet with subject matter experts to acquire and verify technical content.
Manage multiple projects within multiple teams as needed. Report status and communicate risks to management.
Requirements:
Associates degree or certificate in Technical Writing, English, or a related discipline. B.S. degree in a life-science discipline highly preferred.
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, and solid attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
A minimum of four years of experience creating documentation for hardware and software products. Experience in the life-science industry highly preferred.
A minimum of four years of experience with standard authoring tools such as FrameMaker. Experience with Flare, RoboHelp, or other help-authoring tools required. Experience with version-control software is a plus.
Experience creating documentation plans as well as evaluating, prioritizing, and implementing projects.
An understanding of Web browser capabilities, design constraints for the Web, and experience with HTML, JavaScript, XML, Flash, and CSS is an asset.
