Position Overview:

The position is primarily responsible for:
• Backend development using Ruby on Rails or Java to build and maintain server technology to build and power our mobile applications on a range of client platforms (iOS, Android, mobile web, HTML 5, Blackberry…etc.)
• Team lead for both frontend and backend development of mobile applications by an in-house team.
• Oversee external development partners to ensure it meets and fits into Lonely Planet's quality and architectural framework.
• Participating in the architecture of Lonely Planet wide platform initiatives. Being the subject mater expert and advocate for mobile.


Key Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Qualifications / Attributes:

Essential:
• Minimum 5 years Ruby on Rails and/or Java technology development experience
• Previous project team lead or management experiences for teams of at least 5 developers.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff to achieve desired outcomes and build strong alliances and relationships
• Excellent analytical and evaluative skills
• 1-2 years experience (and strong preference) of working in an Agile development environment
• A commitment to quality and continuous improvement – including a willingness to question current practice, to be hands-on and with strong attention to detail
• A passion for travel
• A good sense of humor

Desirable:
• Experience developing against iOS projects.
• Experience being a "scrum master" in an agile environment.
• Have previously recruited and built a development team.
