Summary:
Proofpoint continues to set the pace on innovation surrounding Internet-based messaging and we are looking for a Director of Engineering to take on the challenge of continuing this tradition in the cloud. We´re looking for a seasoned Director of Engineering to lead teams all focused on delivering cloud-based technologies and solutions that will power all of Proofpoint´s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products. This role is one part people management, one part strategic oversight, and one part pure "on the ground" tactics. This position is located at Proofpoint Headquarters in Sunnyvale, California and reports to the EVP, Engineering.
The Cloud Services directorate is one of the most demanding, rewarding and high-profile divisions inside of Proofpoint and needs a technical leader who has demonstrated excellence in similar roles in the past. An ideal candidate for this role will have prior experience managing multiple cloud-based services and the teams which developed and operated them, will be capable of technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and storage yet verbally and cognitively agile enough to hold their own in a strategy discussion with Proofpoint´s executive team and Board of Directors. The ideal candidate would also demonstrate a keen understanding of market factors, manage trade-offs and maintain a culture of urgency, innovation, competence and accountability.
Responsibilities:
-Hiring, training, and retaining world-class engineering talent
-Delivering a steady supply of new and improved cloud-based capabilities, while streamlining and improving the infrastructure behind the scenes
-Working closely with Proofpoint´s operations teams to ensure they have all the administration tools they need in a 24x7 high availability environment
-Ensuring the ongoing security, stability and performance of Proofpoint in a fast-paced environment defined by constant deployment
Requirements:
-A proven track record running high-performing engineering organizations, with the ability to juggle multiple simultaneous projects at various scales and stages of completion
-5+ yrs of experience in management
-A passion for creating Enterprise solutions that over-achieve
-A deep working knowledge of the entire stack of a modern Cloud technologies, from Hadoop to Cassandra, from MogileFS to Delegated Auth, from Hive to MySQL, and everything in between
-An irrepressible excitement about the cloud and the possibilities it affords for new forms of services and applications
-A strong tolerance for office tomfoolery
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Accountability, honesty, responsibility, flexibility ... and a sense of fun and playfulness
-Above all else, you´ll have a constant desire to make things better, learn more and push harder, while ensuring those around you are happy and growing with you
-BSCS or equivalent
