Principal Consultant – Professional Services
Preferred Locations: candidate can be located anywhere in the USA, but preference will be for those located near our major offices (Sunnyvale, CA - Toronto, ON - Draper, UT)
A proactive, responsible, highly motivated Professional Services Principal Consultant to join our team in leading implementations of Proofpoint solutions and maintaining technical relationships with our enterprise customers.
The role will demand interaction with large scale enterprises at senior levels, as well as with technical staff within the traditional IT organization. This individual will engage directly with newly signed customers to implement Proofpoint solutions at their sites. The successful candidate will have sound technical knowledge and experience blended with excellent customer and relationship management skills. This position requires the candidate to be able to successfully manage large high visible projects to completion. The candidate must be able to take responsibility and accept accountability for successful customer engagements and partner technical relationships.
This is a highly technical role and deep knowledge of the Linux operating system and network configuration is required, as well as a strong background in email. Resolving customer issues routinely includes working with complex product and infrastructure configurations, problem troubleshooting and isolation, performance tuning and optimization, training the customers on product features, escalating product defects and issues and driving them towards resolution while managing the customer.
The candidate will be expected to provide both technical and professional leadership for the Professional Services organization including mentoring other team members. A candidate in the role is expected to create new product offerings, learn new technologies, and provide feedback and recommendations to other departments to help improve Proofpoint's products and offerings.
Responsibilities:
-Engage with new and existing enterprise customers as the Proofpoint product expert, leading the project to implement Proofpoint solutions
-Work as an individual contributor on smaller projects as needed
-Participate in technical sales calls, and contribute to creating sales and implementation strategy at the account level
-Provide technical expertise and real-life experience in creating solutions, designs, proof of concept and implementation
-Coordinate with multiple parties -- internal departments as well as the customer -- to ensure timely and satisfactory resolution to technical issues, and completion of projects
-Be a strong voice for your customers into the Marketing and Engineering teams to improve the product and ensure that Proofpoint deployments are successful
-Engage as the direct point of contact with the customers, during a technical or sales escalation, and drive issues to resolution
-Provide technical leadership to the Professional Services team as well as the larger sales and support organization
-Define and document the best practice techniques, processes, templates, and architectures for use by the greater field organization
-Work with marketing and product management to define new products or services and provide insight from the field back to these groups
-Provide feedback and on a project basis direction both positive and constructive to professional services team
-Mentor less senior members of the team and provide training to new team members
-Ability to work at all levels of the organization both technically and politically
-Drive high levels of customer satisfaction
Required Skills:
-7+ years industry experience in a customer-facing technical field such as professional services, sales engineering, or technical support
-Experience in large systems design and project implementation for enterprise email environments
-UNIX system administration experience
-Broad technical knowledge of Internet products and technologies
-A thorough understanding of Internet protocols and how they work, particularly HTTP, SMTP, IMAP, RFC822, LDAP, PKI
-Knowledge of networking topology, TCP/IP protocol, network configuration and components (firewalls, routers, etc.)
-Strong Sendmail and messaging infrastructure system administration experience
-Detailed hands-on knowledge and experience of Windows Operating System
-Detailed hands-on knowledge and experience with Active Directory and Exchange Email systems
-Knowledge of networking topology, TCP/IP protocol, network configuration and components (firewalls, routers, etc)
-Knowledge of Perl, SQL databases, Apache, HTTP and LDAP
-Experience administering and deploying large scale messaging and LDAP directory infrastructure systems
-Experience in supporting software for Fortune 500 or other large companies
-Must have a good understanding of the sales process, be sensitive to sales situations, and -possess excellent customer service skills
-Project management skills and high attention to detail
-Excellent presentation and communication skills; demonstrated ability to present and explain technology to people with less technical knowledge
-Must be able to thrive in a fast paced, high stress start-up environment
-Demonstrated experience in working with broad cross-functional teams
-Excellent organizational, analytical, negotiation, and influence skills
-Ability to work independently, ability to adapt quickly, positive attitude
-Experience leading project teams
-BSCS or equivalent
Desired Skills:
-Prior experience in implementing Email Archiving & eDiscovery software
-Experience selling and implementing appliances to network security engineers and/or messaging administrators
-CISSP
-PMP
