Production Support Programmer Analyst (PA) is responsible for maintaining 24X7 highly available Production Control environment using (primarily) Unix and Linux platform and client-server topology. Provide technical, functional, and coding support for production. Both batch and on-line systems involved. Interact with software developers, systems analysts, database analysts, report analysts and business analysts to diagnose and debug highly technical and sophisticated software and computer systems. Collaborate with help desk personnel, system administrators, and network engineers to resolve Production issues. Provide rotational on-call support. Develop, maintain, and run production scripts using job scheduling tools. Execute file transfers using various security protocols. Use version and change control tools to promote production releases. Must be able to multi-task ad-hoc requests and work in a close team environment.

1. The Production Support PA will be guided by the Lead PA to provide support for the software development departments and business customers to troubleshoot software and computer systems.
2. The Production Support PA will be guided by the Lead PA to provide technical support for production for batch and on-line systems.
3. With support from the Lead PA, the Production Support PA will work with the Help Desk, system administrators, and network engineers to resolve Production issues. Provide rotational on-call support 24X7.
4. The Production Support PA under the guidance of the Lead PA, will develop, maintain, and run production scripts using job scheduling tools. Execute file transfers using various security protocols. Use version and change control tools to promote production releases.
5. Must be able to multi-task ad-hoc requests. Work in a close team environment. Be very customer-oriented. Strive to streamline Production Control processes to achieve efficiency and reduce defects

Job Qualifications:

Education/Training
B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Information Services, highly technical or engineering field, or equivalent experience

Business Experience
Working knowledge of mid-to-large size IT organization

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Required
• 2+ yrs Production Control experience, and/or 2+ yrs Operations
• 2+ yrs 3rd level support in IT environment
• 2+ yrs Unix Korn, Bourne Shell scripting, including sed/awk
• 2+ yrs Linux scripting
• 1+ yr Perl or other common shell scripting language
• 1+ yr Java programming
• 1+ yr Oracle PL/SQL

Working Conditions

Environment
Candidate is expected to work in general office environment. Occasional travel may be required. Candidate may be asked to work overtime occasionally. They must be flexible for various project assignments when needed.
Roles and Duties of the Entry Level Production Support Group Engineer

Qualifications:
The MPRS Production Support Group (PSG) Entry Level Engineer is guided by the Lead Engineer to schedule, monitor, and maintain the scheduled jobs and data extracts of the organization. This will also involve some Java and/or shell (Unix, Linux, etc.) scripting development to support features that have been deemed necessary for the continued improvement of the job scheduler. The PSG Entry Level Engineer must exhibit a high degree of adaptability in solving problems and a high level of willingness to learn the technologies involved in the development, testing, and production environments. The PSG Entry Level Engineer should be detail oriented and demonstrate the ability to follow the guidance of the Lead Engineer with regards to procedures and protocols and also demonstrate a growth towards eventual self-sufficiency and confidence in emergency situations.
The functions of this role center on communication. The PSG Entry Level Engineer must strive to excel in communicating face-to-face as well as with voice or other electronic media. The PSG Entry Level Engineer will be required to communicate extensively with internal staff as well as remote (and occasionally onsite) client representatives and external customers. It is crucial that the PSG Entry Level Engineer be able to learn to communicate both at a highly technical level and also in a manner that non-technical staff can understand. The PSG Entry Level Engineer in conjunction with the Lead Engineer is expected to be in constant communication with the various development teams within the organization and provide support as code is moved through the release life-cycle.
