Huawei Technologies is currently seeking to fill several critical and high profile, engineering role[s] - a Principal Architect/Distinguished Engineer OR Senior Research Architect, Multimedia/Video Processing. These roles are an integral piece of the Innovation Center based in Santa Clara, California whose primary purpose is to drive new product/technology innovation inside Huawei. There are 3 Departments under Innovation Center: a) Network b) Communications and c) Multimedia.
The emphasis of these roles is on Multimedia Innovation made up of 3 Groups a) Audio b) Video and c) Systems.
As a key technology influencer within what can be best described as a start-up environment [currently a team of 3 individuals], you will provide direction for the architecture/vision of one or multi areas of research for Multimedia/Video Processing.
Some of the more relevant topics that align with the roles in question include:
Content delivery identification and security eco systems - the key emphasis here is on optimizing the end user experience
Video Processing content deliver - a key area under this heading is augmented reality -- as example, how can a system capture/recognize a picture "video". Video Conferencing as an example where this expertise would be applicable.
Web Services - move to provide end users with access to services on line - allowing users to enjoy services on line versus running them on their desktop.
Shared Content - an example could be having systems recognize user names and passwords that can be deployed across all web sites that an individual user would access - this could fall under Mobile Subscription services.
Interactive TV
Ideally, this individual will have a strong background emphasizing one or more of the following:
Video coding and processing [UHD, 3D, Mobile]
Content identification, management, transport and visualization
Cryptographic and security techniques for multimedia content and networks, including watermarking and fingerprinting
Digital rights management
Virtual and augmented reality
Key Considerations:
While Huawei is recognized as a top 5 player in the telecom/networking environment, several other finer points may give you reason to pause:
· Start – Up Environment/Ability to Make an Impact: Huawei's Innovation Center is still very much a start-up environment and affords an opportunity to make a significant and quantifiable impact where your leadership/technical skills can be leveraged.
· Visibility: As innovation related to Multimedia/Video Processing is such a significant initiative, this person will have key visibility/interaction with/to high ranking executives.
Senior Staff Researcher/ Architect, Multimedia/Video Processing
Responsibilities
· Requirements analysis and specification of advanced services/applications, leading technologies, solutions, infrastructure, and components interfacing with internal business units and external customers as needed to understand solution/product requirements
Technology trend analysis, requirements and functional/feature specifications
New algorithm development, and software integration/implementation of the latest technologies
Creation of new solution/system/software architectures, prototyping and designs to meet the requirements
Internal/external product interface specifications
Review of system design and internal/external customer documentation
Mentoring other members of the team in the areas of proprietary technology, innovation, and standards relevant to company products and solutions.
Position Requirements
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in system/software product development. Working experience in well-known industry company is preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in system/software architecture, or in video coding and processing.
· Proven experience in working advanced technology research, developing scalable, reliable and robust telecom/enterprise grade systems.
· Excellent understanding of telecom/enterprise networks and protocols, such as TCP/IP and HTTP/XML.
· Excellent understanding of current and emerging services/application on various content delivery networks, including location-based services.
· Demonstrated ability to create new software and system architectures and interfaces providing innovative solutions for customer requirements.
· Demonstrated ability to think outside the box and innovate.
· Extensive experience developing complex software with some combination of C/C++, JAVA, HTML/XML, Perl, Python, PHP, etc.
· Excellent project leadership skills.
· Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
