Job Description
Aspera, a fast growing and profitable software start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area building leading edge data transport technology, is seeking a software engineer expert in Qt application development to join our core product development team.
This position will have you working on Aspera's desktop applications. The focus is on developing user interfaces that take highly technical advances in high-speed file transfer and allowing them to be easily and effectively used by a diverse range of users. As such, you should have a good sense of product design and user experience. Our desktop applications have companion web applications, so being able to interface with web services is required, and an understanding of backend web operations is desired. You must have solid development habits (testing, documentation, etc.) and not be afraid to research and gain understanding of new and unfamiliar technologies.
If you are excited about emerging, open web standards, this is you chance to apply them! We are using the latest standards in user-centric identity, including WebFinger, XRD, Portable Contacts, etc., to allow people to easily and quickly deliver files. We open source our standards-based libraries, so if you have a GitHub or Google Code profile, please let us know in your application.
Responsibilities:
- Implement UI widgets in Qt targeting Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
- Develop data access and storage components that interface with SQLite and RESTful web services
- Write functional and unit tests to ensure correct operation of applications and libraries
- Work collaboratively with other members of a small, fast-moving team
Required Skills
Required Skills:
- 3+ years of Qt programming experience and solid understanding of C++ fundamentals
- Excellent understanding of design patterns and when to apply them
- Ability to create effective UIs that meet user experience goals
- Experience with asynchronous network I/O and communication with web services
- Familiarity with Qt Designer and creating custom widgets
- Experience with other UI frameworks or mobile platforms is a plus

- At least 3 years experience in professional software development (5 or more years preferred).
- Minimum BSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (MSc preferred).
- Demonstrated success building excellent end-user applications through previous positions or independent projects.
- Highly-motivated to achieve in a self-starter, highly dynamic start-up environment.
