The ideal candidate demonstrates a system-level focus while understanding the impact of every component.
Broad knowledge of and exposure to network protocols as well as embedded and real-time operating systems are essential for success in this role.
Participate (in a senior/ lead role) on a project team of engineers involved in development of software for Cisco products.
Requires use of :
1) Strong background in SW design, documentation and implementation, on projects that may include any of the following list of responsibilities: Lead project team on the build of a major SW release, including building the software, coordinating with other departments, and participating in scheduling (from conception to testing). Architect, design and deliver system software after specification of platform requirements.
2) Demonstrate a high degree of originality and innovation in defining product and project level architecture. Significantly influences the design of interfaces between products to ensure interoperability. Resolve design issues. Define new software product features. Develop large portions of software independently and rapidly. Champion new, improved design methodologies.
3) Define Reliability, Availability, Servicability (RAS) goals for products. Incorporate RAS in product design.
4) Participate and/or take a lead role in Cisco´´s Patent Program.Typically requires MSEE/CS combined with 5-7 years of related experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 7-10+ yrs related experience
5) Ability to apply extensive experience as a networking generalist or specialist.
6) Requires experience with more than one of the LAN/WAN and network layer protocols. Possess in-depth knowledge of own product and broad knowledge of other related products.
7) Understand advanced architecture principles and design practices. Understand advanced datacom concepts. Possess in-depth understanding of competitive products.
8) Superior bug fixing and testing skills. Ability to plan large projects. Ability to solve system wide problems. Initiates informal reviews of ideas and technical objectives within and across business units. Work is performed without management direction.
9) Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed by management through consultation from a relatively long time perspective, for results. Translates BU level goals in to own work assignments. Interfaces cross-functionally and leads team collaboration extending beyond work group.
10) Customer resolution requires excellent verbal skills and professional presentation. Sponsors and models exemplary team interaction. Encourages and accepts personal feedback.
11) Mentors junior team members. Demonstrate ability to successfully influence win-win cross-functional dynamics.
12) Good knowledge of Layer 2/3 protocols.
13) QOS and L4-L7 protocols are a plus.
14) Expertise with MPLS/GRE is a usefule addition.
