#1358 - Senior Systems Engineer
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Master's degree preferred.
Required Experience:
• Have a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
• Solid understanding of industry-standard systems engineering processes.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership in large scale projects that may include multiple subcontractors or subsystems.
• Demonstrated expertise in latest technologies in broadcast and on-demand digital video delivery systems, including, but are not limited to, the protocols, technologies and practices in the following areas:
• MPEG-2/MPEG-4 encoding standards for standard-definition and high-definition video
• Digital video system architectures, from signal acquisition to delivery, for ATSC, DBS, IPTV, Cable and wireless
• Multi-screen video technology, including transcoding, to TV, PC and handheld devices
• Video-On-Demand (VOD) ecosystems for multi-node clusters, including video servers, traffic/billing systems, middleware and edge devices
• Configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Multicast IP networks (CCNA/CCNP a plus)
• Conditional Access (encryption) and Network Management Systems
• Digital Program Insertion (DPI)
Responsibilities:
As a technical lead in the Harmonic project team, the Senior Systems Engineer is expected to consistently carry out the following tasks:
• Work closely with the Harmonic Program Manager and be the primary technical interface to customers and subsystem vendors.
• Ensure the system design meets the customer requirements.
• Review system requirements document. Extract and pass-down subsystem requirements to corresponding subsystem vendor(s).
• Generate Interface Control Documents (ICD) between all subsystems and customer demarcations.
• Perform RF link budget analysis, system loading/performance analysis, power budgets, etc
• Plan and lead internal and subcontract technical teams during integration and test efforts.
• Hands-on testing of Harmonic-supplied equipment, including third party parts such as Cisco routers and video/audio switches.
• Perform RF, IP and MPEG analysis using hardware or software based analysis tools.
• Work closely with Harmonic or subsystem vendor teams on issues escalation and resolution.
• Develop system test plans, including defining subsystem acceptance criteria. Plan and conduct end-to-end system integration testing and acceptance.
• Provide technical and organizational leadership to system engineering team.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to Harmonic systems integration processes.
• Provide feedback to the Harmonic Products and Solutions groups on new technology trends and customer desires.
This position requires significant domestic and international travel. Around 80% travel, most of which is domestic US, and about 10% to Central or South America.
