Job Title: Optical Engineer/Scientist--Los Angeles

Our client is a private company located in Torrance, CA (Los Angeles area). They are a leading R&D-based turnkey imaging systems provider who solve problems and deliver complete solutions to their clients. Their activities include developing systems including electro-optical sensors, algorithms, and data collection protocols, and then helping their customers collect data in the field and analyze that data. Their areas of emphasis range from military and defense to precision agriculture and farming. They are a team of highly energetic and enthusiastic scientists, and are seeking ambitious, driven, and self-motivated individuals to add to their team.
They are currently seeking an Optical Engineer / Scientist. The employee will come up with novel solutions to problems, design and build appropriate optical systems (complete sensor systems, complex infrared lenses, spectrometers, etc.), then perform alignment and calibration (mechanically, radiometrically, spectrally, etc.) of the systems, collect data in the lab and in the field with the instrument, analyze data, etc. This position will be highly independent and requires the individual to take complete ownership of projects – if you want to hide within a large team, this is not the job for you. That said, all projects will be collaborative efforts with various other team members.
Specific Duties include:
Own the design, specifications, implementation, and quality control of all optical designs (R&D and production).
Propose optical solutions and trade‐off analyses to problems presented by other engineers, customers, etc., including entire process from problem definition, to pertinent concepts and solutions.
Collaborate with other hardware and software scientists to deliver the most desired solution for any particular project.
Update job knowledge by studying the state‐of‐the‐art, ongoing research in the field, etc.; participate in educational opportunities; read professional publications; maintain personal networks; participate in professional organizations – this position requires YOU to be aware of what research is going on at universities around the world that may help OptoKnowledge improve our products, provide better R&D proposals, etc.
Position will include assisting in, and preparing proposal solutions for government solicitations, submitting papers to both referred and other journals, etc.
Responsible for project management, ensuring engineering specifications and deadlines are met.
Interface with clients, vendors, sub‐contractors, and other project teams to understand the scope of work and provide the best solution.
Required Skills:
MS or PhD (preferred) in Optical Engineering or other related fields.
Experience: 0‐5 years
Must have experience in design work as well as working in a university or industry lab.
Proficiency with optical design software (CODE‐V, ZEMAX, etc. We use Zemax in‐house).
Must be a self‐starter and a fast learner; must work efficiently, both independently and within a team.
Must have very good problem solving skills and attention to details.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required ‐ must be able to write clear reports, papers,
proposals, etc., and efficiently discuss the same with other scientists, engineers, and customers.
US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED
Clearance Level: none required, must be eligible and willing to apply for security clearance.
