Application Developer- LA Office
ActiveVideo Networks Studio is currently seeking a highly-motivated self starter to join our Studio team as an Application Developer. The focus of this role is to develop consumer facing web-enabled interfaces for the television, using a DHTML and JavaScript-based proprietary development environment. The Application Developer will be working with the team to build robust web applications from the ground up with performance and scalability in mind. The ideal candidate is a passionate, talented Web Developer who can help us plan and build the new generation of consumer applications for the television.
Responsibilities and skills:
• Develop rich client applications targeting an existing DHTML, and soon-to-be-released HTML 5 browser (deployed to millions of connected devices for display on TV screens)
• Develop Video On Demand interfaces, rich widget applications, interactive prototyping, JavaScript libraries and Social Networking utilities
• Create applications that will be deployed to a user base of over 1M users, and growing.
• Forget about browser wars – we are developing for a single browser deployed to television viewers via the "CloudTV™" platform… focus on making awesome applications, without having to adapt for 5+ browsers!
• Work with a team of developers, designers, and engineers to push the application platform and inspire new features and functionality.
• Interfacing at times directly with clients – some client relation experience will increase your effectiveness throughout the life of projects.
Qualifications:
• 3+ Years Experience with Object Oriented programming
• 3+ Years Experience with JavaScript including classes, prototyping and JSON
• Experience with AJAX and Web 2.0 technologies
• Experience with at least one JavaScript library (Dojo, JQuery, Moo, Prototype, ...)
• Experience creating Standards compliant (X)HTML/CSS
• Experience with online digital media site development
• The ability to solve problems with persistence and creativity
• Exposure to backend development and the ability to integrate design with data-driven processes to create dynamic applications
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• A passion for television and new media
Additional Preferred Skills and Experience, but not essential:
• Experience with one of the following server languages PHP, JSP, .NET, Ruby, Python
• Database development and knowledge of SQL
• Ability to manipulate Photoshop comps into usable assets
• Experience working with various formats of video content and related media
• Contributed to, or maintained an Open source project
• Familiarity with Linux and Windows-based operating systems/services
• Familiarity with Perforce or similar version control system
• Familiarity with Content Management Systems
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies
• Experience accessing, updating, and creating documentation in a wiki


Education:
• BS or BA in computer-science related field
