Director, Production Operations
Operations | San Francisco, CA, United States
Marin Software is a leading provider of online advertising management solutions, offering an integrated platform for managing search, display, and social marketing. The company provides solutions for advertisers and agencies of all sizes, enabling them to improve financial performance, save time, and make better decisions. Marin Enterprise, the company's flagship product, addresses the needs of online marketers spending at least $100,000 per month on biddable media. Marin Professional delivers the same power and ease of use as Marin Enterprise, through an application designed for marketers spending less than $100,000 per month on paid search. Headquartered in San Francisco, with offices worldwide, Marin's technology powers marketing campaigns for over 800 customers managing more than $2 billion of annualized ad spend in more than 160 countries. Marin has raised a total of $50MM in funding and has over 200 employees worldwide.
The Operations team at Marin Software is responsible for the hardware and network infrastructure that powers our applications. It also serves as the front-line for production technical troubleshooting and internal client issue resolution. The objectives of Operations are to keep our clients productive, find and report any errant systemic problems, and build processes and systems that allow Marin to scale as our user base grows.
The Director, Production Operations will be directly responsible for scaling and maintaining our production hosting environments, including network and systems infrastructure, monitoring, fault-tolerance, systems automation and configuration management. The primary measure of success for this position will be the scalability and reliability of the production systems infrastructure and related processes. The candidate must possess a mastery of technical fundamentals and also the ability to measure and optimize resource utilization for the system as a whole.
Life is complicated enough without over-engineering things – our design philosophy is that simpler is usually better. Anything that needs to be done more than twice should probably be automated, and proper planning and testing mean less stress and fewer errors in times of pressing need. We strive to have an ego-free work environment. Above all, Operations is a close-knit team that depends on each other, and we're looking for people who have the skills, work ethic and sense of humor to help us grow and stay true to these values.
Responsibilities:
• Manage Staging and Production systems, network and security infrastructure to a budgeted expenditure.
• Quantify systems utilization and available headroom through best-practices monitoring and trending.
• Provide technical mentorship and stewardship for a team of Systems and Network Administrators in systems design, benchmarking and troubleshooting.
• Recruit, mentor, and motivate the Production Ops team in technical aspects as well as project management and effectiveness.
• Promote best-practices in configuration management, monitoring, and maintenance through previous experience.
• Ensure overall systems reliability and performance on behalf of our clients.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in hands-on operations management and technical leadership.
• Previous experience in procurement and contract negotiation of hardware.
• Recent experience in creating large (100+ servers) infrastructures on a LAMP and/or Java stack.
• Mastery of Unix/Linux command line, and scripting proficiency in perl, python, and/or ruby
• Experience in administration of network and security devices: switches, routers, firewalls.
• Ability to navigate a relational database, and learn entity relationships quickly.
• Excellent communication and project skills, using pragmatic short-term milestones to achieve ultimate goals.
• Educational background in Engineering: Computer Science and Electrical Engineering preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation levels are commensurate based on experience and skills. Marin Software was voted Best Places to work in the Bay area because of our people, fun work environment, stellar benefits. Marin pays 100% comprehensive health benefits (health, dental, vision), expenses 50% of commute cost to work, and provides generous PTO, equity, fully stocked kitchen and more. This is a full-time position at Marin Software headquarters in San Francisco's financial district. Marin values having teams working closely on-premise, so heavy telecommuting is discouraged. Marin Software is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to a diverse workplace.
