Cisco is developing next generation optical transceiver modules for 40GE, 100GE and beyond applications. CMOS photonics technology empowers a fundamental reduction in the power consumption of long wavelength ultra high speed optical transceiver modules.
The reduced power consumption of the optical transceiver modules will enable higher density Switches and Routers.
We are lookinng for a Optical Design Engineer to work in our Lab at our San Jose location.
• Optical Design Engineer
Job Description:
• Overall responsibility for design, development, testing and productization of optical coupling and packaging for Cisco's revolutionary CMOS photonics technology
Responsibilities:
• Simulation, design and characterization of free space and integrated optics coupling into small silicon waveguides for transmitter and receiver sub-assemblies of single and multimode transceivers
• Instrumental in the creation of IP, low cost, miniaturization and low cost assembly strategies and designs
• Meet optical specifications, cost and schedule for product portfolio
• Work with mechanical, electrical, packaging and manufacturing engineers to implement cost effective, manufacturable product designs
• Develop detailed drawings / specifications as required
• Perform experimental measurements confirming simulations
• Creation of advanced optical, mechanical and electrical integration technology for Transmit and Receive Optical Subassemblies (TOSA and ROSA)
• Setting up an optical lab to make test measurements of various optical designs for both single and multimode TOSA and ROSA
Background and Experience
• MS or PhD in optics engineering or equivalent
• Minimum of 10 years of related experience in the optical industry
• Experience with Software simulation packages such as BeamProp, ZEMAX, ASAP, FDTD required
• Previous experience with both prototype and volume manufacturing strongly desired
• Lab experience with optical measurements and optical test equipment required
