Senior Member of Technical Staff –Team Technical Lead - Professional Services
Location: Home office in the Waukesha, WI area. Travel to client site required.

The Senior Member Technical Staff – Team Technical Lead (Tech Lead) is a technical leader responsible for management of a team performing system architecture, design and implementation of embedded software, BSPs, device drivers, middleware, systems software and application software for a variety of products developed by Wind River Services for our services customers.

The Tech Lead must have strong written/oral/presentation/communication skills, technical/analysis skills, and a wide range of embedded development experience on complex or leading edge product development. The Tech Lead works with Project Managers and services sales staff to develop work proposals for customers. The Tech Lead is a key member of the services proposal team and must have the skills needed to elicit, understand and analyze customer requirements, prepare project descriptions, propose architecture and high level design, prepare detailed project schedules, estimate hours, and summarize project technical risks. The Tech Lead is a "customer facing" position involving customer interaction on fact-finding sessions, architecture discussions, requirements definitions, proposal presentations, and presales negotiations.

During development, the Tech Lead provides technical leadership to the services project team and applies a broad experience base and strong technical and interpersonal skills for management of the team. The Tech lead understands the skill sets of the team members, team dynamics and task requirements and makes effective and efficient task assignments for all team members. The Tech lead is responsible for monitoring progress, and preparing team status reports. The Tech lead is responsible for defining architecture and high level design, participates in all detailed design reviews, provides all technical direction and is responsible for issue resolution. The Tech Lead is capable of performing the most technically challenging work on the project. The Tech Lead applies a broad technical development background to quickly understand new technology directions or to do deep dives into existing complex systems for extensions, changes or problem resolution. The Tech lead is the primary technical customer interface and is key in working with the Project Manager to set and manage customer expectations and insuring customer satisfaction through direct and effective interaction with the customer and customer's team and ensuring on time on schedule, complete featured product delivery.

The Tech Lead also performs the role of manager of record for services engineers, providing a superior role model, career guidance, mentoring, performance feedback and goal setting for all direct reports. The Tech lead participates in the hiring process to ensure proper qualification of candidates.



Requirements:

· BS in computer science or related subject area (or equivalent experience). MS preferred.
· A minimum of 12 years of embedded software design experience with uniformly increasing levels of responsibility
· A minimum of 2 years experience successfully leading a development team of > 5 engineers
· Prior successful experience performing in a "customer facing" role for presales and development
· Strong embedded application and VxWorks (RTOS) background, Linux an asset
· Strong C and C++ programming skills
· Strong and effective written/verbal communication and people skills
· Successful track record of accurate estimation across a diverse team and on time delivery
· Strong decision making skills and judgment – can be depended upon to meet goals, foresee and avert problems
· Broad experience range covering a variety of systems, processors, and peripheral devices and experience working in multiple consumer, industrial or federal product areas.
· Must be a hands-on type of person with the initiative to dive in and do whatever is necessary to get the task completed.
· Comfortable working in the UNIX, Linux and Windows development environment
· Skilled in use of configuration management, requirements, risks and defect tracking tools
· Skilled in software processes and best practices
· Some travel is required.
