Synaptics, the world leader in human interface solutions for portable electronic devices, invites qualified applicants to apply for a career opportunity as a Senior Algorithms Technology Development Engineer in our Systems Architecture Department. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with great creativity combined with a strong programming and algorithms background.
The position will have responsibility for contributing to the development of fundamental technologies for Synaptics' future growth. Technology Development Engineers play a critical role in fostering innovation within Synaptics by combining their talents with a team of highly skilled technical contributors to successfully complete technology development projects. Such projects are typically focused on the creation of new core-technologies rather than the development of specific products. As such, our candidate should have strong and diverse engineering and science skills. He or she will be part of a team that works on projects that are often very multi-disciplinary in nature. Projects may involve combinations of disciplines such as signals and systems, electronics, physics, software, mathematics, materials, optics, and mechanics. An important aspect of the position is to reconcile real-world observations with analytic predictions or simulation models. Another significant part of the job is to use these models to create algorithms that effectively deal with real-world non-idealities.
The ideal candidate possesses an advanced understanding of methods for processing signals using algorithmic methods to achieve highly efficient code implementations. Often, custom tools will need to be developed to help understand real-world data. Along similar lines, familiarity with commercial tools such as Matlab, Labview, MathCad, etc. is of great benefit. Many times development is done by gathering real sensor data and using that data as input for simulations of potential algorithms. When acceptable algorithms are found, those algorithms are optimized for implementation in an embedded processor. Up-to-date skills in mathematics are essential and a background in Physics is a plus.
We are seeking a team-oriented individual with a positive attitude and excellent problem solving skills, self-driven with keen technical mind and an eye for detail. Our candidate will have a track record of successfully completing technically large and complex projects. He or she must be effective in a fast-paced, highly technical R&D environment. As we are looking for an experienced and seasoned individual, a history of leading teams is highly desirable.
Summary of Minimum Requirements
• Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering. PhD preferred
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
• A background in optimized software and firmware development for the implementation of custom algorithms targeted to embedded processors
• Familiarity with modeling, simulation and mathematical analysis particularly in the area of signals and their manipulation
• Broad technical experience is essential with skills in some or all of the following areas:
o Mathematics
o Signal processing
o Physics
o Electronics
• Ability and willingness to develop and grow in the above technical areas
• Demonstrated ability to successfully complete complex R&D technology projects
• Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D department with technology-oriented deliverables
• Attention to detail!
