Key Responsibilities
Skype is seeking a smart, fun minded, motivated Senior SOftware Engineer with an innate drive for working on and solving customer based issues. The ideal candidate LOVES software and has a passion for writing code that addresses real customer issues and needs. You will be an integeral part of a cross-functional team including Product Managers, Developers and Architects. You will be designing and developing a suite of web based collaboration and communication services for millions of business users.
Work in an agile development environment with the Product Managers on a daily basis to scope, develop and deliver world class software solutions to support business requirements.
Play an active role in the design, development and unit testing of production software
Collaborate with and assist the Product Manager to develop and execute against release plans (yes, we have real release cycles!)
Build efficient and reusable services that can scale to support large numbers of users building on top of scalable infrastructure
Participate and contribute to architecture meetings for defining how backend systems will work for massively deployed web applications
Develop, execute and evaluate performance and load tests
Deliver BEST quality products and features in shortest period of time
Qualifications
Strong background building and delivering web-based applications, server software and integration with service providers 3-8 years
Front-end, back-end, web services and/or service oriented architecture
Object oriented design (OOD) experience required
Extensive experience building large scale web applications with some combination of the following technical skills:
JavaScript, Ajax, XML, Apache, Linus, C/C++; Database experience ie; Postgres, PL/SQL, MySQL
Full SDLC experience, including release to operations and production in a world class environment
Proven track record of building and deploying large-scale distributed systems
Working knowledge of Agile Development or an enthusiasm to learn
Experience developing applications using cloud services such as Azure or S3 is a plus
Demonstrated skill working in and contributing to high performing teams
Experience leading development teams and ability to effectively mentor junior developers
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to effectively communicate technical solutions within development teams to influence product development
Cultural sensitivity and a proven ability to work with teams and partners across multiple geographies
Stamina and tenacity to deliver great software solutions, with a passion for working with other developers of all personality types
Creative and passionate about generating new ideas
BM or MS in Computer Science or Engineering OR equivalent years of work experience
