Job Description:
The Technical Support Representative position is an important part of our data center team. The Technical Support group provides our customers with phone, email, and hands-on support for various Co-Location services, Internet services such as T1, DS3, & DSL, managed Cisco routers, VPN´s, firewalls, and managed Windows/Unix web hosting 24x7x365. As the primary interface with our customers you will be responsible for responding to trouble tickets, answering calls, installing network cabling, provisioning new customers, providing remote hands support, and more. As part of our support team you´ll also be responsible for monitoring and providing system administration services for our internal systems. Occasionally you may also be requested to assist with or troubleshoot issues a customer may have with their system hardware or network equipment. We are looking for someone who is very reliable and able to work weekends, holidays, and off shift hours. We are also looking for someone who is interested in continuing to grow their technical skills.
Responsibilities:
* Follow documented procedures for monitoring customer power and bandwidth usage.
* Complete customer requests both verbal and written (tickets).
* Monitor incoming ticket queue.
* Generate trouble tickets in accordance with operating procedures
* Perform data center and facility inspections
* Install network media (cross-connects) as need e.g. fiber optics, Cat5e and coaxial cable
* Perform general system administration activities.
* Install networking equipment i.e. servers, switches, routers, etc.
* Provide Technical sales support.
* Work on special projects as needed.
* Train other Support personnel as needed on technical or non-technical matters
* Provide On-Call support as part of a rotating off shift customer support schedule.
Physical Requirements:
* Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a minimal of amount of force frequently
or constantly to lift, carry, etc.
* Frequent use of hand tools i.e. wire strippers, scissors, punch down tools, etc.
* Frequent use of a ladder to complete cross-connects, demarcation extensions and cable pulls
Skill Requirements:
* General Knowledge of data center operations.
* General Knowledge of the Internet technologies such as DNS, Email, Web hosting, TCP/IP
* Must have TCP/IP knowledge and basic knowledge of routing and troubleshooting
* Must have experience with servers, routers, switches, hubs and networking equipment
* System Admin skills with Linux, and/or UNIX
* Must have good problem determination/trouble shooting skills
* Must have good verbal communication skills
* Must have the ability to follow established guidelines, policies, and procedures
* Must have telephone, communications, and interpersonal skills
* Must have attention to detail skills
* Can work independently or with a team
* Must be committed to quality and the motivation and ability to work well in a team environment
Desired Skills:
* Experience with Email, DNS, Web hosting, Data Bases, Nagios, Ntop
* Experience with Linux/UNIX OS and applications
* Experience with Java, PHP, Perl, CGI, C, or Shell Scripting
* Experience with trouble ticketing software
* Experience with VOIP phone systems.
* Experience producing written procedures
* Experience with Building Monitoring Systems (BMS)
* Experience with NetSuite
* Experience with data center security
* Understanding of network performance management techniques and software
* Familiarity with network technology, data communications media installation (fiber, coax, copper)
Education:
* High school diploma and 2+ years of college
* Certifications in IT, Networking, Cisco, or Microsoft a plus.
