Applications Chemist in the development of a high-throughput analytical method for analysis of volatile compounds in air samples by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Chemist is needed to prepare calibration standards for 300 gas phase DARPA compounds, develop GC-MS methods and run and analyze samples. The successful candidate will be involved in the development of mass spectrometry systems as part of the Molecular Detection team.
Core responsibilities for this position include:
Design, prepare and run gas phase calibration standards and assist with method development for use in high-resolution GC/MS analysis
Experimental design for mass spectrometry based high throughput analyses. Design, implement, and operate quantitative analysis methods using Mass Hunter Quantitative Analysis software
Creation of compound libraries
Interpretation and reporting of analytical data
Take responsibility for assigned projects from inception to completion
Maintain appropriate laboratory notebooks, write research reports, periodically present work to the R&D team as well as to the management team.
Job Qualifications:
BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry or related field
Specific training and experience in organic sample analysis
Proven experience with gas chromatography or related techniques - Minimum 2 years of practical GC/MS or LC/MS laboratory experience, including data acquisition and analysis
Proven capability to take raw samples and extract required information
Experience with the acquisition and interpretation of data from mass spectrometers. The ideal candidate prepares and quantitates small-molecule samples using GC/MS, develops or modifies analysis methods in Quant software, generates and understands relevant data reports, and communicates effectively with a diverse team of scientists and engineers
Proven flexibility to work in rapid prototype development environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated initiative and creativity is a must
Enthusiasm for working in a diverse, demanding, collaborative, and exciting technology environment
Strong work ethic and team player attributes
