Our Client, a multibillion dollar software provider of business and financial management solutions for small and mid-sized businesses is seeking a Principle Data Scientist within their Business Intelligence Group.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Principal Scientist -Data Mining will be part of the Applied Data Sciences team. He or she will apply data mining techniques to create actionable insights from a broad range of structured and unstructured data that is also growing rapidly in scale. The data include: user clickstreams, sales transactions, perception and attitudinal surveys, usage studies, market research, demographic and firmographic information, product usage, customer support interactions and wide range of user-entered and user-contributed content. The data may be quantitative or qualitative and the recommended business actions should lead to measurable improvement in business outcomes, end-to-end customer experience and financial metrics.

• As a member of a central organization, help shape and drive the strategy for data mining and analytics that supports our rich and diverse portfolio of businesses and enables us to continue to accelerate revenue growth over the next several years. The challenges include where and how we use data mining; what tools and technologies we should deploy; and much more.

• Collaborate closely with marketing, product design, and customer support to understand their key challenges and drive improvements into their respective functions.

• Apply world-class applied data mining techniques to build models to optimize decisions across the entire range of the product lifecycle including product design and development, customer acquisition, customer experience, up sell and cross sell, and customer support. Build scalable and reusable data mining solutions and capabilities that support traditional marketing and commerce web-sites, Software as a Service product offerings and an increasing portfolio of support, service, and community web-sites.

• Act as an industry thought leader to continue to build up awareness of the company as an innovative analytics practitioner web in the broader web business community. This will involve speaking at industry events, sharing best-practices with other companies, building working relationships with key analytic experts, firms, and consultants, and more.

• Act as a core member of the Applied Data Sciences Team and help drive and resolve broader team and business issues around our general state of analytics excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Outstanding demonstrated business acumen - The candidate must be able to function and lead effectively in multi-disciplinary teams that include business and technical contributors. In particular, the candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity and yet able to steer analytics projects toward clear business goals, testable hypotheses and action oriented outcomes.

• Deep mastery of data mining-Candidate must have a deep mastery of a wide range of data mining techniques, tools, and methodologies with a demonstrated capability to apply them to a broad range of business problems and data sources. Data mining techniques include: clustering, classification, regression, decision trees, neural nets, support vector machines, genetic algorithms, anomaly detection, association rules, sequential pattern discovery, and text mining. This individual will need to demonstrate the highest level of analytic capability, and must have a proven track record in making analysis actionable to improve business outcomes. Hands-on expertise in using one or more data mining and statistical packages such as SAS, S-PLUS and R is required.

• Data proficiency - The candidate must be comfortable working with large data, and be proficient in extracting relevant data from relational and non-relational databases.

• Strong algorithmic and programming skills-The candidate must have the skills to design and program new data mining algorithms as necessary, including, in some cases, large scale implementations using Map Reduce/Hadoop.

• M.S. degree in an appropriate technology field (computer science, statistics, econometrics, operations research). Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field is a plus.
