Director, Software Quality

Job Description:
This individual will be a senior member of the engineering staff, and will lead the Software Quality group that has responsibility for testing and validating all Panasas products. The functions represented in this group are:
• New product testing: Responsible for test planning and execution on new products or feature releases. Work with solution teams to develop any necessary tests. Responsible for integrating new tests into existing test framework.
• Maintenance release and patch release testing: Responsible for test planning and execution on all releases.
• Build and release: Responsible for all product builds and releases. Maintain and develop build system.
• Test tools and infrastructure: Responsible for maintenance and development of test frameworks and tools.
• Lab management: Responsible for management and operation of test labs in both engineering offices, and for remote lab locations.

The successful candidate for this job will be a strong operational manager, with experience in building an organization. A good understanding of the overall software development environment, not just test engineering, and an eye for process development are required.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Plan the growth of the Software Quality organization to support product teams in the two Panasas offices, and execute the plan. Hire as necessary, develop skills and retain existing employees. Scale the organization to meet the company's needs.
• Provide leadership to the software quality function at Panasas; become an equal partner to engineering in the product development process.
• Develop strategic plan to fully and efficiently test future products, which are getting larger and more complex, while still staying within schedule & budget constraints.
• Strengthen performance and other metric testing on Panasas' products.
• Support the timely completion of all product programs within product and quality requirements through effective management of test engineering deliverables.
• Lead the Software Quality team to do necessary maintenance and development on Panasas test infrastructure.
• Work with other senior management staff to understand the different roles of "quality" at Panasas, and then develop appropriate quality/ test planning, management and execution processes; work with other engineering groups to integrate those processes with development lifecycle.
• Work with Software Development teams to closely integrate development and test practices to improve product reliability and both teams' efficiency.
• Develop and manage annual operating budget, including the Software Quality team's expenses and the lab capital budget.

Experience/Qualifications Preferred:
• 5 or more years software development experience, plus at least 3 years of software quality or test engineering management experience.
• Broad experience in engineering or cross-functional technical management; second level management experience is desirable.
• Proven track record in building a SW quality or test engineering organization that has successfully shipped commercial, technically complex products.
• Strong familiarity with test engineering management processes and techniques.
• File system, NAS or large client/ server product experience is desirable.
• Experience with Linux and/ or scripting languages is desirable.
• Strong collaboration skills; excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong operational management skills.
• Good mentoring and staff development skills.

Minimum Requirements:
• BS Computer Science or equivalent degree
